But, absent Harris deciding not to run again, it would be almost impossible for Biden to get around picking the wrong person at inception.

He's a masochist. After she attacked and insulted him in the Democratic debate, it was a done deal. There's no telling what goes on behind the scenes. I think he squints a lot because he's in physical pain.

The correct question is whether either party is sane.

People choose their vp candidate for a myriad of reasons. Their ability to be president is rarely a consideration.

I think Harris is more of a liability than Biden. The Obama team had a brilliant strategy in 2008 by making the election Obama versus Palin rather than against McCain. How many times did we hear she was just a heartbeat away from the presidency.

How much more would that be the case with Harris, who is much more likely to become president then Palin was? She was given one task as vice president to oversee affairs at the border. Wasn’t it months before she even showed up there? She had one task and failed miserably. Does anybody really want her as president, whether you like Biden or not?

I wonder if some people might vote for Trump merely against the possibility of Harris becoming president.

Do you think there’s any chance Harris is not Biden’s running mate?

IOW because Trump would be a better president than Harris? Harris may not be very presidential, but at least she's not a traitor.

I'm not sure what percentage of voters pay significant attention to the VP slot. To the extent they do Trump's VP pick will be interesting as well.

I think there is about a 25 percent chance that Biden doesn’t run again so ofcourse there is a chance. Biden will need to delay the announcement that he won’t run as long as possible to avoid being a lame duck.

another poster who doesn’t understand how our system of government works. Was this an attempt to overturn the 2016 election?

I could post more if you need further education. So did the dozen or so democrats in 2016 who objected to Trump’s election on the floor of Congress try to overturn the election?

    The answer is NO!!

I’m starting to think he would do the greatest service to this Country to not run. His age gives even MAGA a huge talking point blast. The Country needs someone that will crush Trump and the MAGAs once and for all, and to show them (and those that want to be elected) that their brand of extremism is flatly rejected.

Yep his ego is involved here. Stepping aside is the right thing to do. Let’s hope that the idiots in this country come to their senses and run someone more acceptable then trump for president.

    Couple of observations.

Beau's daughter was one of the major influences that convinced him to run to begin with.

She got married at the WH and moved into the WH within the last year.

Being potus and living in the WH has a lot of things to like.

Who do you think he asked if he should run again?

Too many family and staff livelihoods depend on him and others staying there till they die.

I will vote for a number of potential pub candidates before Biden due to his age. Give me Romney or even Cheney or maybe even Haley. Still waiting to see which horse the Koch's pick or if they get into the primaries like they said they would.

Biden needs to step aside. This whole die in office nonsense has to go. McConnell et al need to go and enjoy the months/years they have left

I believe that 11 Democrats in the House voted not to certify the results of the 2016 election. 139 Republicans House members as well as eight Senators voted not to certify the results of the 2020 election. Although it should be obvious that was a real difference between the votes to certify in the two elections. In one election there were a very small number of House members who voted not to certify the results of the Electoral College while in the other election a majority of House members of the party of the losing candidate voted not certify, the former was a strictly symbolic expression of dissatisfaction with an election in which there was documented foreign interference in the campaign while the latter was a serious albeit doomed attempt to overturn an election in which their candidate lost by almost 8 million votes.
