Very briefly, big victory by the Left in Guatemala that a right wing judiciary is trying to reverse in a quasi coup. This story is a bit old but is ongoing.

Big right wing victory in New Zealand and at least a referendum in Australia (I may be off on some specific nomenclature, trying to summarize generally).

At least preliminarily based mainly on exit polls, looks like a big left wing victory in Poland against a far right government that was also undermining democracy, such that this was considered a last shot to save democracy.

Very general. Take it for what it's worth

    Bottom of a pint glass
Seems like the pendulum just swings pretty constantly in most countries with free elections.

Based on exit polls, bit of an upset in Argentina, still going to runoffs, but the leftist was supposed to be trampled by the TikTok libertarian, but the leftists may have the early lead

There isn't really a 'leftist' in the mix, its the Peronist party coalition, and Massa is more to the right of the coalition. He split from the left faction in fact and formed his own party.

Thanks. You have obviously been following closer. I just saw Peronist.

And I did follow enough to know the TikTok libertarian was supposed to easily run away with it. Been the buzz in those feeds for weeks. Si it was an upset.

Peronism is weird, it can be almost anything at times. I suppose that's how populism works. Whatever the case, the Massa faction has tried to distance themselves from the Kirchner faction while trying to keep the Peronist coalition together.

By the way, just in general Buenos Aires Argentinian news, it has long been my dream vacation. We may one day do it. It's hard to figure out the impact of how bad the economy is down there for tourism. But there is a great mini series on Hulu that will make you really want to go. Just like The Wire although completely different genre, the city is a major character if not the major character, in this case the food culture

The main thing to understand is that it's anti-communist, so its been historically cool for American foreign policy in Latin America (at least in the sense of no CIA coups :))

I spent a summer in Argentina in the mid 90s (mostly in Rio Cuarto, Cordoba but also a little time in BA). Great break from the Florida heat and however good the steak was supposed to be, it was even better!

See Nada on Hulu! Think a more intellectual and urbane Larry David as a Buenos Aires food critic

Massa is also the current Minister of Economy, presiding over one of the worst economies of the region. I guess ‘it’s the economy stupid’ doesn’t apply there.

I love Argentina. Sad to see this. Don’t know anything about the opponent, but this guy seems nuts.

Been debating Patagonia or South Island of NZ for my next bucket list trip. Guess this means New Zealand.
