Is the Democratic Party insane or something else?

The definition of insanity is to keep trying the same thing hoping for a different result.

In 2016, the Democrats ran the worst candidate they could run against Donald Trump. They found this out if they didn't know it beforehand. And they lost.

So now what? In 2024 they will run against Trump, or has grown more popular with every indictment, Joe Biden, who is not only 80 years old but sometimes seems like he's on his last leg. And this time, repeating the same mistake can cost this country its democracy itself.

Back when the Republican Party had some honor and character, a group of its leaders went to President Richard Nixon and told him he had to resign. If only some Democratic leaders would now show similar character by going to Joe Biden and telling him he has to retire and let someone else run for the good of the country. But I fear that even if they did that, in this particular sense, as hard as it is to say, Nixon, by resigning, was a better man than Biden, who will not retire.

If the Democrats had a clear successor to Biden, I think there would be more pressure to put that person up. Who is it? The Republicans do have some clear options but appear to be sticking with the guy who lost last time and since then has been held liable for sexual abuse and indicted for numerous crimes. The Republicans can’t even get a Speaker named.

Meh. Joe Biden is the least controversial President we’ve had in half a century. His legislative accomplishments have been quite distinguished. If it wasn’t Joe’s age, or Obama’s middle name, or Hillary’s laugh, it would be something else.

Apples and oranges. Obama's middle name and Hillary's laugh were irrelevant to the presidency. Biden's age is not. As for "least controversial," it seems like controversy is what people want nowadays. Is anyone more controversial than Trump, who has been running even or ahead of Biden in some polls? Controversy has been his best friend.

Trump beat Clinton because he was able to ride a tide of anger that folks didn't see coming. All the polls showed him losing, but the polls didn't account for the angry white folks who came out to vote at a much higher percentage than expected. The polls also worked to keep Dems at home thinking that Trump had no chance. So above average turnout for Pubs, below average for Dems .... bada bing ... we got stuck with the worst president since ... well ever.

I'm with @citygator. I think Biden has done an outstanding job considering the head winds he has handed. We need to get normal folks like you to stop whining that he is a bad candidate and start cheering him on. Because we aren't changing horses now.

Strong majorities are concerned about his age. There has to be a better candidate than Biden. He should really back out.

this is on dems if Inmate Number P01135809 is our potus. If he wins, our country will never be the same.

Just look at this house speaker mess. That is maga.

Show me a poll where any other Democrat has a chance of beating Trump, and maybe I'll sign on to "time to move on". Until then, I'm Riden With Biden!

There is, what, 2 years age difference? Biden looks physically healthy and can walk up ramps and ride a bike… sort of… Trumy looks like he could have a heart attack at any moment, and I’m sure his constant anger and 91 pending criminal chargers isn’t helping his stress level.

So if the pubs nominate Trump, then come out in mass to vote for Trump ... it will be the Dems fault.

Any Dem or Independent with a brain should vote for Methuselah over Traitor Trump.

If they don't have a better alternative, isn't that an indictment on the party?

So to you, expressing an opinion is "whining." Well, you won't find me "cheering him on." The way things stand, if Trump, God forbid, gets elected again in 2024, there will be one person to blame, much like 2016. (There were perhaps two to blame in 2016, Hillary Clinton and James Comey. But Biden may not need any help.)

Not really insane to run Biden again. Nobody voted for him in 2020. They just voted against Trump.

Didn't mean it to be personal.

But I'm really quite sick and tired of reading and hearing all the negativity coming from the Left about Biden. He is our only chance of beating Trump. He is old, I get it.

Sure he can step down, but who is going to step up and have a better chance? We are 12 months out, and not a single Dem not named Biden is getting even a mention.

I think it’s going to be close regardless given the Electoral College advantages for the GOP. I think Biden would/will win the popular vote and the EC is basically a toss up.

Whatever the Dems strategic failings are, I don’t put it at the level of insanity. I’d be fine putting up someone like Shapiro or Whitmer but there’s something to be said for someone who’s been been tested on the national level and beat the same likely opponent just three years ago.

Each of us has responsibility for whom we support, promote, donate, and vote. I respectfully disagree that one person is responsible for our elections. Also not sure why you give Trump or his voters a pass here, particularly given that he’s been found to have committed rape and is being prosecuted for numerous serious felonies. Trump could step aside tomorrow and let Haley, DeSantis and others compete for the job. That’s not on Biden.

Democrats had a clear successor in 2016 and that didn’t work out. Obama and Biden came out of the pack, Trump too. Just saying successors aren’t that important.

I also think the democrats are pretty deep in successors. Biden is staying in because he thinks he can win.
