China moves 6 warships into the Middle East. The USS Carney traveled through the Suez Canal Wednesday and immediately intercepted 4 cruise missiles and 11 drones from an unknown origin and destination. The Chinese navy was/is conducting exercises with the Omani navy.

There seems to be way more to this than Israel going into Gaza. Colonel Douglass McGregor says going into Gaza is a suicide mission, including a large chance that Hezbollah attacks Israel. Hezbollah has thousands of very precise missiles, and Turkey can field an army of 2 million men in 30 days.

To me, we seem spread pretty thin. China does not. We are sending money and missiles to Ukraine. Our SPR is at an all-time low. Can we help Taiwan in this position when China now owns the largest Navy?

Do you think there is any truth to these rumors that Hamas has chemical weapons and will use them against the Kibbutzim when the ground offensive begins? If so, I wonder how that changes the calculus for those sitting on the fence about which side is worse.

Especially if there are Hamas “fighters” who disappeared into Israel and a see waiting to be activated. But I suspect more likely that they would plant something like that on a terrorist to dissuade action. As for sitting on the fence, US interests are implicated if Hezbollah is involved and I don’t see Israel sitting back and waiting for a rocket barrage before they act. We have bases in Iraq and Syria. The US has been increasing its presence including staging units nearby. Israel has already had attacks from Hezbollah, including the thwarted cruise missile attacks from Yemen. And I don’t believe that they were launched by Houthis.

 

That's not the point. But I suspect you already know this, unless you want to completely ignore the historical disputes over the same piece of earth for millennia.

 

Does Hamas even know what’s coming ?

 

I had Shabbat lunch yesterday with a friend who was born in Israel yesterday. His friend's nephew was killed. They only found his teeth, and identified him by a DNA match.

How is my question beyond the point? “From the River to the Sea” is a chant that advocates the destruction of the Jewish state, the primary goal of Hamas. The people chanting it are supporting Hamas. No one is ignoring the historical disputes. From my perspective, one side is willing to explore a two-state solution in which its right to exist is upheld, and the other will settle for nothing for nothing less than the ethic cleansing of all Jews and the theft of their property. That description has been true since 1947. So, yeah, Hamas needs to be forced to surrender and be humiliated in front of the world. I don’t see any other options that haven’t been tried and failed.

 

The Chinese are coming out in favor of the Palestinians. They've been in favor of them since 1955, but had been quiet about it since the 1980's. The Chinese view Israel as European colonization, and it reminds them of the British and western occupation of China in the 1800's. They are getting louder about it with their increased need for oil from Iran and Saudi Arabia, which supply 70% of their oil needs. China has been investing in infrastructure projects in Iraq, an oil terminal in Iran, and a new capital city in Cairo. Some of the more insane bloggers/influencers are hoping that a new Hitler arises to wipe the Jews off the face of the earth.
