TALLAHASSEE — Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to call a special legislative session to increase state sanctions on Iran. DeSantis’ office Friday confirmed the decision to hold a special session but did not provide details about a date or what will be proposed. It also was unclear whether other unrelated issues could be added to the special session. “I can confirm that the strongest sanctions against Iran by any state in the nation, as proposed by Governor DeSantis, will be part of an upcoming special session,” DeSantis spokesman Jeremy Redfern said in a prepared statement. “We look forward to working with the Legislature to show Florida’s continued support for Israel.” DeSantis to call special session to impose more state sanctions on Iran – Orlando Sentinel
The state can do some things with respect to state policy - for example the procurement prohibitions on state or local contracting with entities that do business with or have certain ties to countries of concern.
Meh, this is bullshit grandstanding and you know it. Stop putting lipstick on a pig. There is no procurement going on
Between state and local governments there are hundreds (possibly thousands) of active procurements going on right now. Obviously Iran isn’t directly bidding to provide anything the state or a local government wants to buy, but prohibitions on awarding government business to contractors who directly or indirectly also do business with Iran or Iranian affiliated-entities isn’t entirely meaningless.
Glad to see we’ve moved from “the state can’t do anything, this is grandstanding” to “the state doesn’t have any procurements, this is grandstanding,” to just “this is grandstanding.” People on here being willing to (at least impliedly) admit when they are wrong is refreshing progress.
