I miss that so much. I remember on his first tv call in show a guy asked about Georgia having our number and beating us for a while. Steve’s response was “Well (insert name), that’s not going to happen anymore “. Not cocky, just matter of fact. Don’t know if it will ever be like that again, but I sure hope so.

Unfortunately the shoe is one the other foot and UGA has their guy who wants to beat UF the same way Spurrier loved beating Georgia.

Didn't Smart take a couple butt kickings as a player at the hands of Spurrier?

Plus his comment about the game being in a stadium called the GATOR Bowl in Jacksonville, FLORIDA to counter the old narrative that uga owned the place.

He was the best! What he did for the Florida Gators can never be understated!

If I'm not mistaken he never beat Florida as a player. Muschamp, either, right? Didn't they play at the same time?

Little did we know Spurrier was creating a monster. Shouldn't have ROTS on those mutts...

On second thought, heck yeah he should've!

Spurrier was so great because he changed our mindset.
Instead of playing not to lose, or being a pale imitation of Bama/ Auburn/ UGA, he said this is the way we are going to do it, and we are going to be successful.

But he didn't just change the football program, he changed the whole athletic dept.
He is the greatest Gator ever, and I'm so glad the field is named for him.

You could also easily make the argument that he changed college football as a whole in a pretty profound way.

Spurrier is our Bear Bryant or Knute Rockne, the foundation upon which our program is built. We are fortunate he is still around and part of the program. I love his swagger, he did it in a way that wasn’t mean spirited. Some fans got butthurt about it but his fellow coaches I think for the most part liked and respected him.

Well he's STILL part of our current football program.

LOT of offensive genius there at our disposal......

Of course, those Gators were strong, talented, experienced teams, while the Dawgs had a coach like we had the last 12 years or so. Nah, Ray Goff was even worse...

"We knew coming in nobody had scored 50 against them here, so that's what we wanted to do. This may be the only time in our lifetime that Florida plays here, so we wanted to make it memorable for the Gators."

"They didn't seem to be mad about it. They only had about 5,000 left in the stadium."
