Trace Johnson - F. W. Buchholz - QB Any word if this guy is on the gator's radar? Son of Buchholz and UF alum Doug Johnson. (One of 2 UF kids at Buchholz with Myles Graham - son of Earnest) And probably better than the old man at the rate he's going. Got to watch him vs GHS and Oakleaf. Dude can make all the throws, pretty mobile and has the bobcats undefeated and #1 ranked in the state with a very legitimate chance to win a state title - as a freaking sophomore. Dude has an insane ceiling and nowhere to go but up I expect to see his profile on the rest of the recruiting sites soon with at least 3 if not 4 stars. The gators should definitely nab this kid out of their backyard.
How is Doug's relationship with UF? I don't ever hear anything about him/see him with the program. Esp if he lives in Gainesville, that strikes me as strange for a successful former UF QB.
I know he's on at least good enough terms with his former teammates that he appeared in a Danny Wuerffel "Head ball coach" stories video Of course, the story he shared was about how Steve Spurrier came to his house and proceeded to ask him about his baseball career, one up him, then leave
Right now there are far better options for 2026 QBs out there. This guy below is the one I want for QB in the 2026 class. https://247sports.com/Player/will-griffin-46134943/
Doug is at almost every home game. I talked to him at the McNeese game with his son! He and I became friends when he played for the Falcons.
Trace is on fire in a 4S top 10 matchup vs Bartram Trail right now - themselves one of the best teams in the state. 15 of 18 for 301 yards and 2 TDs. AT HALFTIME. Against a top 10 team
No, they were almost 10 years apart. Trace Armstrong's last year was 1989. That doesn't mean they don't know each other.....if I'm not mistaken Trace is an agent with IMG and may have worked with Doug during his pro career.
I like him. Haven't we gotten a few players from Buchholz lately? Seems like if CBN wants him them CBN will get him.
Doug was a heck of an athlete during his prime. His athletic ability has never really his issue. Probably should have focused on baseball. That is what most players like him should due given the option between baseball and football.
Shoot, he made a nice living in the NFL with the best job in the league: Back-up QB....get paid great money, never have to get hit by 350 # DLinemen.
The scary part (for his opponents) is that I know people who have been around/watched/coached the Buchholz program for 30+ years and saw Doug when he was a QB. The unanimous verdict among them is that Trace is WAY ahead of where Doug was at the same point in his career. And Doug is considered to be by many the best QB in the history of the program. When I can catch a game on NFHS, I have to remind myself he is a sophomore every time he has a hick up because the rest of his play will make you forget that fact.
Anybody remember on Gator Country that whenever Doug Johnson messed up some attributed it to his evil twin Skippy?
