Combine Florida man, ridiculous laws and trigger happy cops, and what do you get?

MIAMI — A South Florida man who was shot by police as he fired a rifle into the air to celebrate the state’s new concealed-carry gun law has been booked into jail after spending more than two months in the hospital, authorities said.

The 37-year-old man was booked into the Miami-Dade County jail on Friday on 53 total charges, including felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting an officer with violence and possession of a short-barrel rifle, and 48 misdemeanor counts of discharging a weapon in public, according to court records.

On July 7, officers responded to an apartment complex, where they found a man in body armor firing a gun into the air, according to a Miami police arrest report. Witnesses later told officers that the man claimed he was celebrating the new law that went into effect on July 1.

Florida auto shop owner and angry customer shot each other to death, police say | AP News

LARGO, Fla. (AP) — A shooting at a Florida auto shop that killed two men was triggered by a former customer’s dissatisfaction with work done on his car two years ago, police said Thursday.

The Largo Police Department said Eugene Frank Becker, 78, arrived at Stout’s Automotive in a rental car Wednesday and sought out business owner Jodie Stout, 52. Investigators say Becker pulled out a handgun and shot Stout, who returned fire with his own gun, striking Becker multiple times.

Both men later died at a hospital. The shooting brought dozens of police officers to the scene.

Police said in an email that evidence and witnesses indicate Becker felt he was overcharged when he brought a vehicle to Stout’s for service in 2021. He went to the shop Wednesday “with the intent to shoot the victim in retaliation for the perceived wrong.”

I could use at least 3 (maybe 4 or 5) more pistols, and several more rifles. Pretty stacked with combat shotguns, but another wouldn't hurt there either.

Just awful. There are higher odds a pistol or assault weapon will injure/kill someone by accident than using it to shoot roving bands of marauders invading your home. I bet almost everyone here has a story of knowing someone hurt or nearly killed by a gun accident. But not too many stories of holding off a Red Dawn invasion or defending your home against The Purge.

And I'm not saying all ban guns.

I was at my sister in law's house recently, and her husband was unloading his guns for a day at the range. It went off in the house but luckily it was pointed in a safe direction. That's the 1st time I've ever had a firearm incident around me.

    Then your BF is DAF.

Never had a negligent discharge. I transport my weapons unloaded, without magazine and with a chamber flag in place, within a padded case. Impossible to fire "accidently".

My father was shot last year. Ricochet at a Tennessee old person party where they broke out guns in the back yard to “shoot’. All the best parties in Tenn involve beer guns and shooting.

He never had one...until he did. He's always been extremely safe with guns. Neither he nor I understand exactly what happened. His finger was outside the trigger guard, and he was strictly unloading the pistol in order to transport them safely (exactly as you do). Nice of you to presume though

Best friend's dad, a raging angry alcoholic, tried to commit suicide one day when I was there but was so drunk he missed. Years later his aim improved.

Had a friend, a lawyer, who had a hunting accident that resulted in him walking with a cane. He was a P.I. lawyer and juries were so sympathetic towards this young man who obviously suffered from some affliction that he was very successful - had the largest award at the time in Georgia.
