As I'm sure most of you know, Florida hasn't had a 1,000-yard receiver since 2002 -- Taylor Jacobs, to be specific. We've come close a couple of times since then -- Chad Jackson in 2005, Pitts and Toney likely both would have done it in a normal-length season in 2020 (and as it stands, Pitts probably breaks the mark if he doesn't miss a few games with injuries, and Toney probably breaks it if he plays in the bowl game). This has flown under the radar a bit, but Pearsall's big game against South Carolina has put him in a position to challenge the mark. Through seven games he has 44 catches for 619 yards. That's 88.43 yards per game. With five more regular season games, he will exceed 1,000 yards if he keeps up that rate through the rest of the schedule. And playing in a bowl game would help even more. It'll be challenging -- the hardest part of the schedule is ahead, and the nature of our offense being what it is, there's always a danger of Pearsall putting up one of those "two catches for 24 yards" games that really kill the pace. But he's got a real shot at it.
Those 1000 yard seasons for WRs were a product of SOS' system. Of the top ten most receiving yards gained by a Gator in a single season, eight were under Spurrier. Four of those were signed in the same class.
Spurrier said on Pat Dooley's show the other day that Travis holds the record for most receiving yards in a season.
I think he has a really good shot. In the coming games I think we will be in some positions where we need to score or are playing from behind, so Mertz will have to rely on him more than ever.
Best of luck to Pearsall. Hope he reaches 1,000 yards. He seems like a great guy and he’s turning out to be another great Gator.
Wanted to update this and give our boy Ricky a little love here. Ricky needs 52 yards this weekend against FSU to break 1000 yards receiving. We haven't had a thousand yard receiver in 20 years. Since Taylor Jacobs was around to mess with Jimbo Fisher's wife. That's a looooooong time.
It will be awesome when Ricky passes that 1,000 yard mark. I and many others will be routing for him!
Let's just say that if it does NOT, we have no chance of beating the Noles. Our D isnt gonna win a game for us. But I think our O can possibly outshoot them, esp with RP and EW.
52 yards with a backup quarterback. It’s going to be close. If Mad Max has a good game I think it’s through the ground not the air.
yeah I want to see ol' Pretty Ricky break 1K but I foresee a lot of ground game and ball control from Napier and Sale on Saturday with no Mertz.
