I read the NY Times. The newspaper quoted Hamas and clearly indicated that it was a quote. They didn't report the narrative that an Israeli bomb was responsible as fact.

Palestinian authorities said the blast was caused by an Israeli airstrike. The Israeli military said a misfired Palestinian militant rocket, not an Israeli strike, was responsible for the deadly explosion. The health ministry in Gaza said it expected the death toll to rise.​

The first news to come out of Gaza is most likely going to come from the people who live there. Should media sources not have published the statements?

Those are after they first reported it was Israel was who did it. You are giving them credit for fixing their mistake of taking what Hamas told them was a lie.

I would like to think they would verify who launched the rocket before saying it was Israel. Especially considering Hamas is not exactly known for telling the truth.

Simple solution would be "bomb explodes near hospital" until they get verification who did what.

Note the phrase "Palestinians say". That's called quoting not reporting as fact. They also quoted the Israeli position that it was an errant missile fired by Islamic Jihad.
