I'm sick and tired of YouTube TV

I've had YTtv for a while and have never had any issues.

You can also see if the TV supports casting. If you're phone and TV are on the same network and the TV supports it, you can open the YT TV app on your phone, and try to cast it to the TV. This would sidestep the cached credentials issue until you get it sorted out.

 

How much is cable internet with bundles now? I pay $52.48 after tax for Centurylink internet and $95ish for YouTube TV after tax. I Palm Coast I pay $93ish for internet and basic cable (cheaper than just internet). Then use the YouTube TV we already pay for.

I will say the Centurylink is a game changer and the 40 megs has been more than enough to handle streaming and three kids with iPads.

 

Here's some advice I have for everyone. Don't buy a SmartTV. You are stuck with it if you do. The best streaming for us is a Fire HD plugin that works far faster than our Samsung Smart TV we bought several years back for $2K. The issue is the app that runs on top of the TV doesn't get updated enough and the technology changes so much that your expensive Smart TV stops working after 3 years. Case in point, we have 3 TVs in the house, 2 that are wireless and the main Samsung Smart TV in the den that is wired ethernet. I pay for Gigabit too. I can't watch live TV on the main TV. The games get stuck all the time, I see maybe 20 plays before and I gave up finally and went to one of the other non-Smart TVs we have that have the Fire HD stick. Super fast, no issues watching live sports. So, I bought another Fire stick for my Samsung Smart TV. See what I'm getting at? Don't buy a Smart TV and stick with external sticks that you can replace. I did have Roku but dropped kick them 2 years ago for the Fire HD - 20 times better. Roku is dead to me.

 

Our fire sticks work great (one of the 5 we have has a remote that just burns battery though).

On the Smart TV side…bought one 65 inch LG for less than a $1K 5 years ago and have not had any issues. The smaller 55 inch LG same exact TV just smaller for the bedroom has had some minor connectivity issues. We just bought a $200 insignia for the back porch that is a smart TV and no issues yet.

 

Agree that it’s Roku. My Roku TV logs me out regularly. My Apple brick in the next room never does.

My buds I used to work with doing home theater and whole house systems hate Roku. When I left it was awesome (early days.) At some point evidently the hardware went all to hell.

 

Its user error or possibly a dynamic VPN thingy. I had connection issues when I first installed my Roku and then realized my Sony smart TV was still trying to connect and update stuff. The system(s) didn’t like that.

 

Well we have had a Roku tv and Hulu for 3-4 years, no significant issues at all and still about $60/m cheaper than spectrum in our area. My only regret is we don't make the change sooner.
We also have an older LG smart tv with Chromecast, no issues there either. It actually has a better picture but casting off the phone can be annoying at times.

 

We have used directtvstream or whatever it’s been called, it’s changed names several times in the 4-5 years we’ve had it. It has an easy to use guide. We haven’t had any issues with service and we have used it all over the country. We keep a roku in our travel bags, so we always have our service if we need it.

As others have stated, the smart tv’s tend to not be very smart. All our tv’s are smart, but we use roku ultras on all of them. One remote controls tv, soundbar, and roku. I’ve had better luck with box devices than sticks, but the 4k sticks we carry with us have not really had any issues. Almost every issue we’ve ever had has been with first gen stick devices, and built in smart functions on the tv.

 

For those who say streaming is as expensive as cable.... that is because you have basically swapped cable for streaming cable.

I stream tons and tons of stuff, and am paying only for Amazon Prime (actually a freebie since I have it for the shipping), and the basic Hulu (which I pay < $2/month for). We will likely subscribe to Netflix a month every other year or so to binge some of their series.

There lots of great apps that you can get free streaming from (some legal, others more questionable). Amazon just re-branded their IMDB app "freevee" and it is pretty decent and works on most devices (doesn't have to be a FireTv). Youtube's free app is pretty cool.

For the more questionable content there is an app called Kodi which by itself is legit, but there are tons of 2nd party add-ons that open pandora's box of possible streaming content (movies, tv, anime, p0rn).

Then we have a flat antenna to watch over the air tv. That is how I get most of my sports.. and what I can't get I go to a bar for.

Also, don't add the cost of your internet to your tv bill. I'm sure you had internet before you went to streaming, so why would you consider it a cost of "streaming".

 

I have a Samsung smart TV. When YouTube stopped working a Samsung rep told me it was because the smart component went out. I took the occasion to return to Spectrum and just installed a Roku stick.

 

It’s difficult to keep up that’s for sure. Roku is as close to plug and play as you can get. It’s why I like it. If you’re using Roku, you don’t need your smartTV upgrading its firmware or going online at all! Try to see if you can find the settings menu on your tv and turn off its access to the net. “When you first turn on your TV” is when the TV is trying to access the net. Just a theory!
**edit: When I turn my smart Sony TV on it displays “No Wi-Fi Connection” in the upper right, because it’s turned off. By then my Roku menu appears**

 

Change your password. My guess is that too many TVs or folks are signing in.

 

Again, it's why you should get a Firestick. Problem solved

 

I switched to Youtube TV and my overall bill is about 140 bucks a month cheaper.
Had FIOS back in the day and it was great, they switched to Frontier and the cable box would reset itself randomly a few times a day. Takes forever to boot back up. Switched to Spectrum and on top of them slowly, incrementally raising my bill every so often about 10-12 bucks, the picture would start flashing on and off requiring a reboot of the box which takes forever.

So I kept the spectrum cable and got YTTV. Couldn't be happier. As a bonus, I can put the channels I like in order so I don't have to scroll through the stuff I don't watch (all the news channels are at the very bottom). Another bonus is I have it on my phone, lightning cable to an HDMI, plug it in to my car and watch TV going down the road. Saturday I was helping my son move into a new apartment at UF and was able to catch the last half of the Gator game on the way back to Tampa.

 

If you sign in to your account on a computer browser, it will allow you to re-order the channels. Can't do it from the TV as far as I have found.
