Oh don’t let my comment indicate that I didn’t enjoy that win. That was a fantastically gritty and exciting effort of which I am indeed proud. It’s just not the kind of thing I would throw in Stewart Mandel’s face. Now if we ended up winning 8-9 games…
Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. I'm quite happy we're at 5-2 now, but with 4 ranked teams ahead and probably only one game in which we'll be favored (Arky), the probabilities of getting much above 5 are uncertain. USCe had one of the worst defenses in college football, and in some ways we were lucky to win. Our schedule is brutal this year, so I'm grading on a curve a little bit, but 7 wins would be pretty good, anything below that is sort of "meh."
I would throw it right in his face. The dude predicted the mighty Gators would go 3-9 & fire the coach.
1. Predictions aren’t about how much someone wants us to win. They are about how many wins we will actually have. 2. The season isn’t over yet. We could end up at 5 wins this year, making Mandel more accurate as all of us who predicted 8 wins. Would you be even harder on those people? Of course not. I really hope we get to 8 wins, but I personally wouldn’t bet on it.
Not concerned about what the writer wants. He basically said that the Gators are going to suck this year and the coach will prove to be a failure. I don’t think it’s foul play too hold him to a different standard than message board fan.
I’m happy we are 5-2, but if we didn’t pull that W out things would be quite dire. It’s kind of amazing how people just shift on a dime like that, but can’t say I’m not guilty of the same (UK game had me just about throwing in the towel). I viewed 7-5 as a good benchmark with a young team and brutal schedule. That’s back in play with the USCe win, but 5-7 or 6-6 are still “in play” as well, the oddsmakers would have us ending 6-6. So not exactly time to spike the football on those who predicted worse.
His head will really explode when Florida knocks of Georgia in 2 weeks. They are ripe for the pickin!
I think it may just be a matter of values then, where honesty sometimes conflicts with flattery. If Mandel honestly believed we would win three games, I want him to make that prediction rather than a nicer one from our perspective. The good part about football, over say politics, is that we all agree on who wins the game. After the season, we will all agree on how many games the Gators won regardless of how many we wished for them to win.
Mandel predicted only 3 wins and our head coach would be fired. Michael Bratton on sec podcast predicted about the same and gator fans would run Napier off. He also predicted Bama would lose at least 3 games if not more and Saban would retire. These two individuals are click bait hunters. They really have no idea which team will do what or when. Most football teams when they really want to show up and play they usually do. Hopefully our Gators do that the rest of the season but they have to take it one game at a time. And that is what I have to do. One game at a time.
Media people who go out on a limb by predicting a second-year HC will fail and be fired in-season deserve what they get when their crap eventually explodes in their grimy little faces. And FTR, there is no such thing as "values driven" journalism in today's world. The only things that matter now are hot take narratives that generate hits and the revenues those hits generate.
Well then may I have your place to crow? Someone said in as big a gathering as he can manage Florida would only win 3 games all year and our coach would be summarily fired this year and he was dead wrong and is now known for being a click-bait hack. I'll crow: STICK IT STUART LITTLE!
