Yeah - good as explanation as any, I guess. Seems weird your PK could out hang your P, but what do I know. 100% agree on the immediate latteral game. That shocked me. I was also expected the fair catch.
I like it, but why not have Wilson run the wildcat? he could kill more time with his quickness playing tag zig zagging east/west.
The fact that it s free kick (i.e. no rush) makes the likelihood of a shank much lower. No need to rush.
I think they did NOT want a booming punt where you outkick the coverage and allow a return. A shorter kick that did not go to their main return man was ideal.
I wonder if Crawshaw being an Aussie style punter might muck up the free kick. Not sure about the rules about taking a running start off to the side like he normally does, as opposed to a more traditional punt.
I was worried after Mitchell had that pick he threw the ball pretty good. Not egregious or at anyone but let’s face it, it’s us I wouldn’t have been surprised to see it called . At least it would have been after the change of possession
There was also quite a bit of home clock keeping. We snapped the first play at 20 seconds and the clock somehow managed to stop at 19. The next play wasn’t as egregious but pretty quick as well.
I'll relay a interesting strategy brought up on the GNFP podcast. On the last play you have your entire O hold the defenders (tackle them if need be) to run down the rest of the clock. SC either accepts the penalty half distance to goal and then you just kneel again to end it, or they decline and the game is over with the safety as the final play.
Exactly. With 3 TOs left you had to assume they would use them and try to make us punt. Why wouldn't they? But subsequent to that, we played it correctly. Napier's "OMG, why would he do that????" moments have been occurring with less frequency lately though, which is nice
I had a better strategy. FTR, I watched the Tom Cruise movie "All The Right Moves" and I agree with Napier's call. "Why didn't I have Rifleman take the safety?" My alternate strategy is have Damian George do what he does best - commit a penalty or two. With 12 seconds and no timeouts, the penalty against the offense (false start) is a 10 second runoff. GAME OVER!
Got plenty of time during the timeout to tell your players to not engage in it, but sure it could happen. Still the best solution I heard with the singular focus of securing the win.
I agree - our biggest issue was only burning up 2 seconds on first down. Beyond that, I think it was brilliantly managed overall (and soooo much more sophisticated thinking and execution than scUM the week before).
Dead ball foul, time doesn't run. He could do it for 10 hours and there would still be 12 seconds left.
They had all of their TOs and 3 runs up the middle wouldn't have taken much time off of the clock before they used each. Plus, that's an unnecessary 3 times the risk of a turnover. Do you not remember Cristobal's brilliance at the end of the Tech game? You think Billy would survive something like that happening a week later?
So the SC coaches have the wherewithal totell all their players not to get angry if they're tackled? And also all players on the sideline?
Worked for the Ravens. In order for the benches to clear, you have to have 2 teams involved. BN would have to communicate clearly what they are going to do and what SC might do in response. I don't care what SC does, they can have a bunch of players suspended, doesn't affect UF in any way.
