In looking at the Cooper Flagg recruitment, I sometimes wonder what it takes to get in on the #1 kid overall in a class? Is it NIL? AAU connections? Is school prestige/tradition still a thing? Wish I had time to follow basketball recruiting like back in the day, but I don't have a clue as to what even matters anymore?
Who knows? It differs with every kid. NIL has changed the landscape immensely, but I'd guess that most high schoolers are still looking at the top programs and wanting to make a big splash within a short college career, and then head to the NBA after just one or two seasons.
