Looking forward to enjoying this up-close & personal today, along with my son, who was by my side for every Urban Meyer-coached game played here in Neyland, along with the 2006 SECCG.

My sentiments about him have mellowed quite a bit since the circumstances of his departure from us. I guess I'm getting soft in my old age. My son has never soured on him. "How do you be mad at a coach that took you to two NCs?"

  2. I was mellowing out on Urban Meyer until the end of his time at Jacksonville. He needs to ride the “Swamp Kings” wave and do something else for the Gator Nation before I publicly support his enshrinement into the Ring of Honor. I do watch him on YouTube on occasion to see his thoughts on the Gators. So far his comments have been amicable, for obvious reasons.

I haven't forgotten how he left Florida. How he came back, but not really, and then left again, permanently, only to resurface right away at OSU. How he lied. How he then spoke about Florida being "broken" when he is the one who broke it (so much has come out). I add to all that his repeated personal "shortcomings" and coverings for others. He's clearly in the middle of some sort of PR campaign. If it has anything to do with Florida, I don't think it will work just yet, if ever.

You might want to check the timeline on that. As I recall, beloved coach Tressell was still at OSU and was going nowhere at the time Meyer left Florida.

His family leave sabbatical was only 11 months.

“Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley announced Meyer's resignation on December 8, 2010, but stated that Meyer would remain as the head coach through the Gators' appearance in the Outback Bowl on January 1, 2011.

On November 28, 2011, Meyer accepted the head coach position at Ohio State University.”

Not trying to be a wiseacre, but why is Urban Meyer speaking at a TENNESSEE QB CLUB meeting?...... Just wondering. Why could they not get Peyton Manning, or some UT alum?

    GO GATORS!!!!

Is he angling for another rodeo? That lightning quick Jacksonville collapse and jettison was a colossal mistake by him. He could’ve had multiple high profile college jobs before that. USCw & Texas, the job he should’ve jumped on, but he said he didn’t want to recruit against pOSU. He conveniently didn’t say anything about not wanted to recruit against UF. If only he could’ve kept his marbles from rolling around. He might’ve been the longest tenured football coach ever here. Oh well..

After everything that happened before -- and it is significant -- Meyer coached the Outback Bowl on January 1, 2011. His last game on the Florida sideline. He was "retiring from coaching" citing his family and his health.

On or about November 17, 2011 (which by my count is 10 MONTHS) news broke that Meyer would take the OSU job. Meyer, naturally, lied and publicly said that wasn't true . . . but lookie, lookie what happened. It was confirmed a week or so later.

If I'm wrong, please let me know.

    Edit: I didn't read your post before responding @62gator . . . Thanks!

Did he ever make a settlement with Jaguars on contract? I know Jags fired and were trying to say for cause and not pay out. Anything ever happen?

Well you have to consider that he was born and raised in Ohio, and is an alumnus of OSU and Cincinnati. Of course his heart is with Ohio moreso than UF. It’s understandable, and is why I didn’t hold it against him that he maneuvered his way to OSU. I’m trying to think of a scenario where I worked for OSU and had stronger feelings toward them than I did for UF as a result. I can’t really think of any way that happens.

He didn't resurface right away at OSU. The job wasn't open. He worked in sports broadcasting for a while, then Tressel got fired and the job opened up. That job wasn't on the radar. He did not leave us for the OSU job.

No one thought Tressel was going anywhere in December 2010. It wasn't until the Sports Illustrated report from May 30, 2011 that sealed his fate.

My point is that he abruptly quit the year before at Florida, then came back for only a season and "retired from coaching," citing all the reasons nobody could argue with . . . and then 11 MONTHS later accepted the OSU job, followed his initial impulse of lying about it, and then the truth came out. NOT the actions of an honest man that needed to "retire from coaching" for his family and health reasons. Meanwhile, Florida was left with the mess he created and ran from, IMO.

Edit: I also know some don't share my opinion and that's what we do here . . . discuss.

Been wondering that too. This is the only thing I’ve about it this year. Somewhere around $40-$50mil hangs in the balance. Not sure what the Jags are claiming as “with cause”, other than he was awful.

Source: Jags, Meyer still don't have settlement.

Have a couple friends who played at Florida and said there were rumors OSU had reached out to urban ahead of time. Tressels problems were already in the pipeline just behind scenes.

I wonder if those rumors occurred after the fact.

If that scenario were true, why didn’t they hire him for the 2011 season? There was plenty of time. Why let Fickel coach a year before bringing UM in?

Oh I absolutely think it could be rumor after fact but just saying there were rumors from former players and people close to the program. I could see it. Can't tamper and also I could also see urban being genuinely conflicted with the opportunity to coach the home team and leaving the school that gave him a chance in UF. I could see it causing him anxiety and panic attacks the way he is wired.

I'd never claim all if this as fact but I could see it and don't think it's entirely implausible to think maybe it happened that way.
