Truly, I don’t think it matters at this point. We already know that Iran is materially responsible. The weapons, money, training, and technical expertise came from Iran. To the exact extent, we don’t know yet, but no one seriously disputes that it came from Iran. That is enough to freeze Iran’s tribute.

The next question is, did Iran give the order (or assent if you prefer) and participate in the planning? And I think the answer to that is, we would prefer not to know and so would Israel. Even if we had ironclad evidence that the IRGC directly participated, I think we would suppress it and so would Israel for the moment. Israel would have to do something about that, and we might have to as well. There’s enough on Israel’s plate at the moment and ours, too. So, politically, maybe the best thing is to remain willfully ignorant of direct Iranian involvement to keep the current situation from escalating. A conflict localized to Gaza is in everyone’s interest but Hamas.

Hamas' weapons appear to be Russian or Chinese made:

Now that is interesting. Nothing is going to change the minds of personalities like Boebert, Gaetz, MTG on the right or Tlaib, Omar et al on the left. But what about the less-stupid pro-Israel members of the GOP who are unsympathetic on Ukraine and the less-stupid progressives who don’t like Israel but hate Russia? There might be a real chance to come together on some basic national security issues if Russia did play a hand in this to get the attention off of Ukraine.

I think Iran is catching heat because they fund Hamas. Rightfully so. But I’ve yet to see any indication that they were aware of the attack or helped plan it.

It’s pretty well known that Iran has the old tooling for the Chinese type 56 AK, and Hamas is the sometimes ally of the Syrian regime that is being directly supplied by Russia.

So while it’s possible Russia and/or China are directly supplying Hamas, that’s definitely not the only explanation for eastern bloc weapons being there.

Wow. Still in disbelief. All of my prior beliefs feel wrong, other than the fact that so much is there open source. Posted publicly on Telegram

Less than a month before Hamas fighters blew through Israel’s high-tech “Iron Wall” and launched an attack that would leave more than 1,200 Israelis dead, they practiced in a very public dress rehearsal.

A slickly produced two-minute propaganda video posted to social media by Hamas on Sept. 12 shows fighters using explosives to blast through a replica of the border gate, sweep in on pickup trucks and then move building by building through a full-scale reconstruction of an Israeli town, firing automatic weapons at human-silhouetted paper targets.

The Islamic militant group’s live-fire exercise dubbed operation “Strong Pillar” had militants in body armor and combat fatigues carrying out operations that included the destruction of mock-ups of the wall’s concrete towers and a communications antenna, just as they would do for real in the deadly attack Oct. 7.

While Israel’s highly regarded security and intelligence services were clearly caught flatfooted by Hamas’ ability to breach its Gaza defenses, the group appears to have hidden its extensive preparations for the assault in plain sight. One of the compounds Hamas used to prepare was so close to an Israeli border checkpoint that soldiers could have been able to observe the site with binoculars.

There are videos of Hamas terrorists speaking Russian during the attack.

Yes, I did. Recordings of Russian commands during the initial assault. I’m intrigued but also skeptical for the moment. A single word might sound the same in two languages but have different meanings. I hope our linguists are combing these videos hard. A unequivocal Russian connection to these events might be just what this Congress needs to un[fornicate] itself.

My question remains the blockade. Of course stuff gets through, but still surprised at how much

Oh, assuredly not, I agree. Russian commands during the assault, if that is accurate, is a little harder to explain.

Yea, but still. The Egyptians don’t have complete control, but logistics

Remember that the Sinai is demilitarized under the terms of the 1979 Treaty. Relatively few people live there. The ones that do are probably happy to help or at least look the other way.

Berlin kicked out the Frankfurt School Marxists after World War War II. They subsequently moved to Columbia University in the United States. The Frankfurt School is where critical theory was incubated and hatched in the United States. The derivatives of critical theory include critical race theory and post colonial theory. Well, well…if you understand the importance of ideas and their consequences this is not surprising…

We are saying the same thing. I'm acknowledging that the Egyptians have technical control but probably have not dedicated the resources to really control matters. And though they don't want to have their fingerprints on anything that did that much damage, and they certainly have no love for hamas, which is Muslim Brotherhood, which the current government overthrew, it's not like there is no political support for the Muslim Brotherhood, and you can let off some pressure if you look the other way at some of their actions in Gaza. Even dictatorships have to worry about internal politics, just to a lesser degree.

There is a severe security breach somewhere. There is no way they could have that specific level of information about the electronic monitoring systems without intelligence.
