It looks like 2024 is set in stone... 8 SEC games.

I would rather we play a 3 - 7 schedule with 3 permanent teams every year. But no SEC team is willing to play 10 SEC games a year. Freaking wimps. The lower tier teams like Vandy don't want that kind of schedule becasue they feel like they need easier teams to make a bowl game. Oddly enough, Saban want a 1-7 game SEC schedule too.

If we had thought out this and worked it out ahead of time we'd sill be a 16 team conference. Everything about this expansion has been azz backwards from the 10 year deal... way too long of a deal. To the one network deal... putting all of our eggs in one basket. This expansion has been a total disaster.

One more time... we need the 3 - 7 = 10 game schedule to at least play 3 permanent SEC teams every year.

There are many other permutations that can be made if we go more SEC games every other year...

Like 7 SEC Games one year and 8 the next year.

Or 9 SEC Games one year and 10 the next year.

This is assuming we play every team every other year minus the permanent SEC teams.

I think we go to nine but the TV deal is going to have to pay for that. They won’t get the extra game for free.

Are you saying the the networks are working our scheduling out for the SEC? How did we get cut out of that deal, and how was that part of expansion not even talked about before hand?

Are we in a certain set of SEC games that we can play in a single year rule/deal, regrading and related to our our financial deal with ESPN?

I have come around on the 4 pod model for 9 games …

    1- UF, UGA, KY, USCjr
    2- Bama, Barn, UTn, Vandy
3- LSU, TAM, MSU, Ole M
    4- OK, UTx, Mizz, Arkanstone

Everyone gets the away game experience at every SEC stadium. Big rivalries saved. It’s the best model so far. I can live with it.

Why would they up the ante when they have the SEC locked down? not like the big10 which has multiple networks fighting over them.

Yep... it's kind of dated, but I'll bet we stay on that schedule the next year after that too. The only way to get to 3 or more permanent yearly SEC team is to get into the 10 and 11 SEC schedule, which unfortunately won't happen.

Some of us thought that the SEC might go to a 9 or even a 10 game all SEC schedule. with a different type of schedule.

If anything here's a thread to make your schedule wishes known. What type of schedule do you want the SEC to adopt?

They complained about not playing each other for several years becasue they kept scruing up the scheduling especially the cross division schedule.

You know Bama and UGA had a ton to do with that crap, becasue they conveniently never played each other in the regular season. I despise the SEC leadership, and the SEC front office.

Yeah, but that's rotation that completes every third year, not every other year.

I still wonder if we can have 2 divisions and still play one permanent SEC team every year, while rotating the rest of the teams on our schedule ever other year? Is that doable... anyone?. We would play UGA every year, but rotate our east teams for west teams ever other year.

For a certain amount of sec games. If they want more, they can pay more.

In that case by making our schedule only an 8 game schedule we made a smart move. That's the only way to look at our ESPN deal in a positive light.

With the addition of Texas and Oklahoma, that’s a big proportional increase in elite teams. It will make for additional marque games that weren’t available when our tv contract was signed. We are offering a better product but they don’t want to pay more. With one more sec game, the conference could add multiple games that would be the biggest game of the week.. There are enough elite teams now to have the best game of the week almost every weekend if the sec decided to schedule it that way. They could go four pods and a four team sec championship. How much would that be worth? Georgia could schedule actual games for their out of conference schedule. Where’s the money? Ticket prices triple for premier games but tv has a set price and ours is much lower than bigs and our product is considerably better. ESPN better revisit the contract if they want the extra marketability that tge sec has the ability to offer.

I was also thinking that we could have the top four teams in each imaginary pod play in two SEC Championship games at the end of the year. That's 2 SECGs versus 1 that we had before. I see... we might have out foxed ESPN... ;)

Then they play each other after eliminating the crap games on the schedules to make room for that week to be played. A ten game regular season would be fine for the sec and we could still spread out the best two games in the country almost every weekend. Our schedule is tough next year but it makes for interest every weekend. Florida /Utah is a great example of the game of the week when we are trying to be top ten in our conference and get bowl eligible. That’s just how far superior we are as a conference.

When ESPN said they would not give us the new deal in 2024, one year early, because Texas and Oklahoma joined one year early, and the deal was to start in 2025... They messed up and we should stay on the 8 game conference schedule until we add games for a much higher price. Or... we should sue for the right to sell those new other games that are not covered in the 8 game schedule. I can see that ESPN should have showed us some good faith and started our contract next year instead of waiting until the 2025 season.

If we ever go to a 9 game schedule ... we ask for more money per team... if we add two SEC Champion games... more money.

We should never negotiate with ourselves and give them free games.
