And I think that’s primarily for insurance reasons.

Sounds like a very, very, very good reason for Hamas to surrender directly.

What would happen, in your opinion, if suddenly hamas were to release all of the hostages (even if only a few were still alive) and surrender.

What does this look like to you? I.E. how would it go both during and after the surrender?

Never going to happen. Rather than surrender, they would rather die as martyrs and have no problem with turning thousands if not tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians into martyrs, too.

All the US slaves are dead. Are former US slave owners are dead. There has been, and still is systemic racism in the US. But blaming an institution and people long dead isn't a good way to live. We don't owe anyone for slavery at this point. Other forms of slavery like red lining, different argument. The effects of AAs still living in ghettos, and AA property values lower effecting generational health is still with us. This is something we can change today and make better for tomorrow. Slavery in the US is history.

And you or anyone have a better way for peace in the Middle East? A think part of the reason Hamas attacked now was improving relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia. If this happens, then harder for Hamas to operate. So Hamas attacks, and SA backs them, and SA and Israel hold off talks.

If every Jew in Israel suddenly died or up and moved out of the ME, we'd have peace. But that's not happening. And as long as Hamas keeps believing one day the land will be theirs again, and keep lobbing rockets along with terrorists attacks, the cycle of violence will continue. So the only realistic pathway to peace is in the Palestinians court. But as the saying goes, they have never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Swamp spring used the word “occupation,” but never defined what is occupied except to identify the beginning as in 1948. Israel list land in 1948. So the definition or evident. And it’s what the demonstrators you quote shouted. Nothing has changed. Those who blame Israel for the absence of a two state solution ignore the history. When Israel offered to go back to the 1948 borders in exchange for peace in 1967. And the deal Israel, the US and PA negotiated at the end of the Clinton Administration. So blaming development in the areas now part of Israel that were part of Jordan or in the Golan as inhibiting a peace process are a farce. Once again I’m the demonstrations today, as they have for 75 years, the Palestines have made clear that they don’t want a two seat solution.

you accurately describe the founding of the state of Israel. It was opposed by the overwhelming majority of orthodox. The Holocaust changes that. But, as for settling the areas formerly occupied by Jordan and e Golan,
It isn’t the ultra orthodox and Zionist. It is the Zionist orthodox. Who are not necessarily the same.

Well, it would go like this: on the eve of battle, as the Israelis are mounting their unicorns and gryphons, Hamas sends forth a single leprechaun as an emissary. Hamas has seen the evil of its ways, speaks the leprechaun. On the morn, the hostages shall be returned, unharmed, well fed and caffeinated, apologized to, with complimentary morning-after pills for the ladies. Then a party of neutral trolls will produce all of Hamas’ rockets, RPGs, crew-served weapons, etc. Finally, the orcs will deliver, trussed and hooded, every member of Hamas who engaged the attacks of 7 October, every planner, every leader, everyone gave material support. All of the rest of Gaza is spared. The IDF, accompanied by UN elves, get to inspect the entire Strip from muzzle to buttplate, destroy all tunnels, seize any weapons the trolls missed. Then Israel rebuilds the Strip and gets the population back to work.

    Everyone wins.

    What sayith Hamas?

Yes, we do. We stole generational wealth and opportunity from the descendants of enslaved persons. We most certainly owe them for that.

The idea that the only impediment to peace in the region is the Palestinians is just wildly off the mark. Neither side has been interested in real compromise for a long time.

I've got to say, my friend, that was pretty damn funny!
Especially the part about the morning-after pills :)

At the same time, it is sad that the women hostages will probably need those morning-after pills after being subjugated by the godless bastards hamas.

    I don't know what a butt-plate is?

Suddenly, Israel rebuilds the Strip and everything is hunky-dory?

Friend, I hope this is how it goes, but unfortunately, people (on both sides) suck.

Obviously where things are today are a result of the past.
I know Jews were settled in the area by the British in the 40s. Was it not the Arabs who first attacked and started the first major conflict in 1948?

The ideal situation would be to obtain more intel about locations of the hostages.

Even with this information there's going to be a lot of innocents being killed and wounded.

This Hamas organization needs to be wiped out.

    Bunch of filthy cowards.....

Well, it won’t go that way. But that’s my point. It’s fantasy. Hamas won’t surrender until its teeth have been kicked in. Their strategy is to make things so bad that the international outcry forces a mediated ceasefire. And if they get it, they will declare victory, and we’ll be right back here in a few years. That had always worked in the past; there’s no reason it shouldn’t work this time. Still, Israel should publicly offer terms along the lines I suggest and give Hamas a means of communicating their intent to surrender. “Ring the Bells! The Mad Queen approaches!”
    upload_2023-10-13_22-20-15.jpeg
Something like that. Every day that this siege continues, the Israeli government can calmly say, “We have heard nothing from Hamas indicating their surrender. We look forward to that day for all concerned.” Mostly that is for diplomatic and informational purposes. It undermines the Hamas narrative about Israel indiscriminately killing Arabs when it is Hamas really just sacrificing those people to avoid facing well-deserved justice.

At one end of a rifle is its muzzle; at the other end is its buttplate. “From muzzle to buttplate” is just a way of saying from one end to the other.

People have not been talking enough about all the innocent Palestinian families who live in the West Bank who have been displaced (and murdered) by Israeli Orthodox and far-Right wing Jews from their ancestral homelands, often with the IDF looking on with encouragement.

These Orthodox and far-Right wing Jews murdering innocent Palestinian families, including babies and igniting their olive groves and farms only to occupy the same land after the Palestinians have given up and moved elsewhere for safety.

This is happening all the time in the West Bank.
Why aren't more people talking about the 28 International UN Laws in violation by Israel?

Probably because the UN can’t pass laws.
