Yep, he slowed Tebow down, which was respectable. I had a good respect for Barry, as a player and a person back then.
Instead of here say, here is the actual clip (from 9 min about Napier, Steve Spurrier): Interesting Topics: - SEC Race (Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky/Stoops, Florida, South Carolina). - Florida's earlier win over Tennessee in the Swamp. - #1 Georgia's quest for winning consecutive games in SEC history; recently passed UF's 2008-09 (22-game record) - Steve Spurrier's record at South Carolina (2010-2013) went 13-3 against Florida, Georgia, Tennessee & Clemson.(beginning from 4:50 min mark) =============================== The longest winning streaks in SEC history: 28 — Alabama, 1978-80 26 — Alabama, 2015-16 23 — Alabama, 1991-93* 23 — Tennessee, 1937-39 23 - Georgia, 2021-2023 22 — Florida, 2008-09 20 — Auburn, 1993-94 20 — Tennessee, 1950-51 *5 wins out of 28 were later forfeited because of NCAA violations Top 5 longest winning streaks in SEC football history ft. Georgia, Alabama and more =============================== Billy Napier "the Sleep Doctor", lol. - Sleep-schedule of Florida players leading up to the road game at South Carolina to get better rest and to play better on the road than they had been. - Florida needs "Swag" or Cocky-Confidence as a program. - 32 mil buyout for Napier. Florida's great support of Napier doing it the right way. - mentioned Florida's 84 SECC - Charlie Pell/Galen Hall and SOS could have had 7 (official) SEC titles (1990-2001) instead of six. - Deon Sander, SOS and/or Tebow as OC at UF in gest, I believe.
I think Tebow would be an excellent OC. Seems like a lot of people just like to think Tebow got lucky or something. He’s an all time great college QB and understands how to get buckets. He was an NFL QB and made it to the playoffs and won a playoff game as a heavy underdog in his first year starting. How many so-called great QB prospects can claim that distinction? I expect other fan bases to discredit Tebow, but I really hate to see it in our own midst.
Who among us has discredited Tim? But even with all of his accomplishments, it's going out on a limb to automatically think he'd be a great OC.
In what capacity? No experience. If he jumps some coaching slots, there would be hell raised. Tim's good where he is
Before becoming an Offensive Coordinator and then eventually as a Head Coach, Steve Spurrier began a long, humble track: - first, as a Quarterbacks Coach at Florida in Doug Dickey's last year ('1978) - then QB Coach at Georgia Tech (in ?1979 under Pepper Rodgers his old ?QB-college coach at UF) - then at Duke as both QB-coach/OC - a two year stint in the USFL Tampa Bay bandits as head Coach - three years as HC at Duke - ultimately becoming the Florida Coach in 1990. =================================== So, for anyone that's interested as an OC and beyond, perhaps they should first start off as a Quarterbacks Coach and work up from there.
I’d love him associated with the team in some capacity. Imagine the street cred with parents. I don’t think the kids could even handle him as a strength and conditioning coordinator. Half the team would quit. His workouts are legendary. He was stronger than most on the team when he was here.
Impossible to predict how he would do. See guys doing well when they start at the bottom. He played in college game 15 years ago, lot has changed. Count me in though. Probably has to start at HS level. Lots more to coaching OC than that as all know.
Tebow discredit is everywhere, including in this thread. I'm not going to call out people specifically, but it is there. With respect to your second statement, I don't recall saying he'd automatically be a great OC. Surely, preparation, dedication, and investment into the job would be paramount. I don't think he can just waltz into the facility and be a great coordinator... if that's what you meant by automatically. If that's not what you meant, then please correct me.
Just giving my opinion. You are correct that predicting results is really just a guess or an educated guess at best.
Not with the majority - just a few fringe, like every other big time school. It wasn’t with Billy, wasn’t with Will, Mac or Mullen.
