There is a quote I am fond of the Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. I don’t have a dog in this fight but not acting like animals when you attack would help me to see your side. The Palestinians and the native Jewish population are one people divided by hate and religious bigotry.

As long as the Mideast is selling the world oil not one of those countries is going to risk it.

This, I fear, is what is about to happen. Ethnic cleansing in the name of defeating Hamas.

Israel has no desire whatsoever to take over the Gaza Strip for themselves.

If they really wanted more Palestinian land, the West Bank is the attractive part - Gaza, on the other hand, they have been trying to give to literally anyone who won’t attack them from it for decades and can’t find any takers.

It’s all well and good, but you k ow as well as anyone that it takes two sides to have a meaningful discussion. One side, and it isn’t Israel, won’t have earnest discussions for a resolution that will have a lasting peace. And why is that?

While I don’t agree with your point at all, I will make it clear that we will never accept terror as a response to the grievance.

Sure. That’s why there’s Arab Israelis, including those who are in its Parliament.

Well, that’s probably more mythic than factual, though, I understand that is the tradition.

I think you’re glossing over a rather important part of the story here. Yes, the Zionist movement popped up in Europe in the 19th Century, with the idea to create a Jewish State, due to rabid antisemitism spreading throughout Europe. And yes, the concept became reality after WW2. But missing from the summary is that Israel was created BECAUSE THE 19th Century Zionists proved prescient — the rabid antisemitism resulted in the vast majority of European Jewry being literally wiped off the face of the Earth. Israel was born because Israel was and is needed.

Just a quick reminder as we debate the issue of culpability, the Hamas government continues to hold hostages collected during their terror campaign.

And to those who support the terror, how is that acceptable?

Notice how none of the Hamas-supporters are criticizing Egypt, even though Egypt has closed the border and offers them no aid. Why is that?

Ok, this is like saying Marcus Garvey was right and prescient to have a return to Africa scheme because America was too racist. Nationalism is stupid!

It’s more than that. On religious basis, it’s the vanity of having the strong faith that the storybook you were taught as a child is the correct version, and any other version is not only wrong, it must be punished under the name of G-d. Amongst many other reasons.

Agree with your post except the last sentence.

Israel does have another choice rather than making some 950,000 innocent Palestinians do a Trail of Tears death march into an area that is already overcrowded, without food or water, medicine or shelter.

That other, far more humane option is to gather and rely on intel and do precision, surgical strikes directly on Hamas with minimal civilian casualties, like the US did when we abolished Taliban from Afghanistan.

The tragic irony is that the Hamas attack necessarily unified a country around a man many thought was corrupt.

If we are all as advanced on the intellectual level as you, then we would all be for living in a World Without Borders. Wouldn’t it be lovely if there were no borders, no nation to shed blood over, no resources to protect from other nations, and no need to construct false barriers to the world’s population?

But the last I checked, the world isn’t ready for this. And so, we have nationalism because we have nations.
