I'm glad the young man from Kansas chose to play QB for the Gators! :)

    I
Also iremember when Spurrier became HC his first year in 1990. His QB decision was a shock to many in the sports media. He noticed Shane was on the bottom of several guys on the list thought to be the Gators starting QB. Maybe behind about 6 that many thought would be the Gators starting QB! But Spurrier liked what he saw in Shane every day in practice, and Spurrier named Shane “as the media started calling him,”that skinny kid from Mississippi because they knew nothing about Shane so started calling Shane “that skinny kid from Mississippi!”.

I'm looking for the defense to set the tone for Florida today.

Heard earlier on the radio (paraphrasing):

Shane Matthews said the routine for this road game has been changed slightly. He travels with the team, BTW.

Montrell Johnson is focusing on just finishing his runs and stop trying to do too much.
Remember, ETN is back today too.

Jake Slaughter playing at C today. He says he remembers the Utah game and learned a lot about better (personal) preparation. He admits he is still learning. Embracing the opportunity.

Jaydon Hill likes the defensive schemes. They pressure a little more and have different ways of doing it. Some of the younger DBs are maturing fast. The time is now for them to grow-up and they realize it.

Pearsall says it's important for them to start as fast as possible.

Coach says the focus has to be on running efficient plays, scoring TDs and ultimately it's about 11 players all doing their jobs and being on the same page. It comes down to execution and mental-physical-emotional preparation. You can't depend on the energy from being at home. You have to have resiliency and toughness when plays don't go your way.

Ray, if you recall, we were playing our spring game in the Gator Bowl that year (as they replaced the turf, I believe at Florida Field?)…
I was there, and Shane wasn’t scheduled to get any playing time, but one of the quarterbacks ahead of him was injured or unable to play so he was inserted in the fourth quarter.
Playing in a simulated “real” game situation seemed to make a difference and he kicked ass – went on to win the starting QB job!
The only other time I witnessed that kind of transformation in person was at the Kentucky game in Lexington.
Kyle took over for Felipe in the fourth quarter - and never looked back!
(I keep trying to upload a picture of us with the winning score on the scoreboard at Kroger Field, but keep getting “ cannot upload - file is too large”:()
