I think some perspective might be in order: UF soccer..... hasn't had a winning season record since 2019 (and then, only 1 game over .500). won only 4 games total (2 SEC wins) in 2021. had most of their starters leave after 2021 and the coach was fired late, with the then inevitable crash in 2022. has already won more games and scored more goals than last year. Is plugging holes all over the field. Shoot, the center back was a forward her entire career until she got here. Given all that's transpired and the status of the program when Coach Bohon took the job, I think she is certainly proving herself capable. The fact that they're not getting blown out of any games is practically miraculous. Patience, please, my soccer friends. It's not going to be pretty this year, but I still have a feeling that there will at least be a few pleasant surprises.
Huge win! 1st SEC win and that includes last year as well. At LSU, and this LSU team is no slouch. They are a tournament team from last year with pretty much everyone back. Gators scored 4, and did not allow a single shot on goal! My goodness what a great win for the ladies, the coaching staff and the program. Big time congrats, to all. Go Gators!
I know just one win, but we have been much better this year across the board. Had some disappointing results and some on here started to type recklessly, I hope they put together a crow dinner at least for really playing a great game tonight. Played KY very tough and should have won that one and really played decently at TN but didnt get a good result. Anyways hope they enjoy that win and come home and follow up well against MSU
Florida Blanks LSU Soccer 4-0; Megan Hinnenkamp Scores Twice - Florida Gators They are on the right track. Long way to go, but making progress with the new coach, IMO.
I haven't been down on the team or coach, per se, but I'll have some that crow because I've been gently cracking on Hinnenkamp on this board (and ranting about her in private). So: mea culpa, Megan. Tonight, you played the best game of your young college career. It wasn't just the goals. (Although, the second one was a beauty.) You hustled back on defense, continued supporting runs after playing the ball off on offense, and involved your teammates in the final third. I was impressed by the workrate of the entire team throughout the whole game. Well done to all.
unfortunately wins against the SEC west don't matter except for your overall rankings. This team needs to make to the sec tourney, gonna be tough.
Tough home loss to Miss. St. last night. Just couldn't make clean passes and couldn't get anything going offensively.
tactically, last night MSU just bunkered us with a hard man to man, betting we couldn’t break them down 1 on 1 and didn’t have the patience to break them down through quick passes, and they were right. Just long pass after long pass that had little chance of success.in the end we allowed one shot on goal and lost. I think we had 2 total shots, one on goal. I am rooting for Bohan, and we have made improvements for sure both on and off the field. But last year the offense was abysmal while the D was OK. This year the D is at least average for the league, but the offense hasn’t improved much if at all, even with the upgraded talent. No reason we can’t have shown similar improvement there. We have scored 20 goals in 12 games, which on the surface isn’t too bad. But 12 of those goals were in two games, in the other 10 games we have scored 8. We have been shut out 5 times, or almost half our games. I really hope in the off season she recognizes the issue and gets help for it. Like I said I really would love to see her succeed and given the cluster she walked into she is safe, and should be. She would be one of my favorite coaches all time if she brought us back, given what she was handed when she came in. So take the time to fix it.
Not tryng to argue at all, 'cuz I didn't know how SEC tourny is seeded. So, I looked it up and... 10 teams make the conference tournament. Currently, halfway through the conference season, UF is one of 3 teams tied for 11th, (with 4 points). There are 8 teams UF trails by only 3 points or less. In 2022, 6 teams made it from the West and 4 teams frm the east. Seedings look to be based on points (3/win, 1/tie) from conference wins - regardless of division. Ole Miss was the 10th seed, with 10 pts in conference play. Assuming that's how it will be done in 2023, and that 10 points is the approximate threshhold to get in, I figure UF needs 2 more wins to have a chance. Of their 5 remaining games, two are against SC and Arky - which are probably losses. So, they need to beat 2 of: UGa, Auburn (the last place team), and Vandy - and have some help from other teams. It's somewhat a long shot, given our passing woes in midfield and weak offense. But, making the tourney is still possible (which last year already wasn't the case, at this point). Tomorrow, against UGa, is a very pivotal game. C'mon Gators, get up and go!
Statistically even first half.....0-0, 5 shots to 4, 3 SOG to 2. Take that all day long on the road vs a top 10 team.
Final: Arky 3-0 An expected result (but not hoped for). Arkansas is just that much more talented. Actually, the team acquitted itself well. Arky's first two goals were balls that (I thought) should have been controlled by the Keeper, but weren't. The third was one where you just tip your hat to the opponent. It was played perfectly. So, put it behind and turn the focus to the next game.
