Fox had some Free Palestine! muslim guy on last night, refuting these allegations, claiming 'no proof', unverified... Like hundreds of ppl are going to spontaneously make up such a gruesome atrocity, multiple accounts, independently, double down on it, and triple down....of Hamas invaders chopping off 40 babies heads off, burning ppl, adult beheadings, 100's of people taken hostage....

This is what so many Palestinian sympathizers took to the streets to celebrate. This is what 31 Harvard student groups signed declare solidarity with....this is what squad openly celebrated...this is what so many wrongheaded people are marking as a day to celebrate and remember as "resistance day!"....

Did you miss the links to multiple groups across the country and world celebrating the invasion, and declaring it "Resistance Day!", and waving Palestinian flags and such????

    Check your glasses, man...

Sure, throw in all the European Imperalists, they all had similar policies.

Before the sharp swords come out I would remind posters that the Spanish, French and English were doing exactly that, right here in N America, from the 16th to the 18th centuries.

Israel is not a vulnerable country in 2023, sorry. Its not an 'existential' issue at all (except for the Palestinians of course). They have a massive modern military - easily the most capable in the region, nuclear weapons and the backing of a world super power who gives them weapons and tech whenever they want and is pushing to normalize relations with Arab nations that are in the US orbit. They have no fear of sanction by any nation because of that, no matter what cruel policies they wish to pursue in retribution. The Hamas attacks were mostly notable because its the first time more Israelis have died than Palestinians whenever these things flare up, and people have lost their shit. They didnt think this could happen, they thought the status quo was contained and sustainable indefinitely. But by the end of it, Israel will have once again stacked up far more civilian bodies and committed greater atrocities, and nothing will change. They will continue to live in fear with policies of their own making, until the next time it flares up.

And of course, there’s the third position, probably shared by most people here, that Israel must end Hamas, not kill anyone or everyone, just end Hamas. That is going to be a long war.

    1. Iran represents an existential threat to Israel (Ditto Saudi Arabia). Hiding behind Hamas and/or Hezbollah, doesn't make it any less so--just an attempt to insert a layer between the principal and the agent, so the agent takes the brunt of any retribution;

    2. The attacks were more notable--in fact, unforgettable--due to their abject brutality, especially against women and children--AND due to the hostage takings.

Do you not see how atrocious this was, compared to most other acts of aggresion???

It was straight up cowardly terrorism. Text book, except more gruesome than most.

Innocent civilians expressly and exclusively targeted...

Did you miss his comment regarding "stopped back by to see what some on the board would be saying"? I would assume he is aware of the events and response around the rest of the world, and is saying he wants to know the temperature of this board specifically. Are you suggesting he is unaware of the events in the world and the varying responses, and needed to read this thread to gather external information?
Thankfully I don't need glasses....apparently some could use them.

    See, you do get it.

I just don’t think you appreciate the extent to which it’s *always* about Trump and never about anything else. Never the good of the county. Never the good of allies. Just what they can do to help Trump. 100% one way loyalty demand. Trump is probably agitated Netanyahu moved on and now praises the new U.S. President (as of course he would) instead of remaining loyal to him personally. Interestingly using the same language as he did with Pence for not ending U.S. democracy (“he really let us down”, who is “us”?). He means him. I truly think the man is as infantile and sociopathic as that.

If 1/6 didn’t wake you up to that reality, perhaps nothing will.

In either case, aside from Trump calling them “very smart” the crowd of people actually praising adversaries Hamas or Hezbollah (or Putin!) is very small, minuscule even. Most of them from what I’ve seen is “don’t forget the plight of the Palestinian people” or calling for restraint. Tlaib, who is a Palestinian-American whose parents came from Gaza, called to cut off aid to Israel. Obviously that is unacceptable (especially at this time). I’ve long thought we should demand more compliance from Israel when it comes to their illegal settlements and such, and the conditions in the Gaza Strip, but most likely that’s out the window now as they lay siege to Gaza. Israel deserves the leeway to root out Hamas, but of course at some point a more permanent solution is needed. If it turns into a slaughter of 100,000+ Palestinians, that isn’t in the long term interests of an Israeli state either imo.

Sorry, Iran isn't an 'existential' threat to anyone. They don't even have nuclear weapons.

Killing civilians is killing civilians, I don't think there are rankings on how brutal that is. Does the Geneva convention or international law have degrees of acceptable slaughter? Dead is dead. Is there a correct way to kill civilians?

The posts defending them, distracting from them, and playing games, amount to approval.

E.g.--not 3 posts up, you get this gem:

The attack was only notable, because for the very first time ever, why more Jews died than Palestinians...

So...VICTORY!!! LET'S CELEBRATE!!! CALL IT 'RESISTANCE DAY!!!"

(...btw....do you think I cleverly came up with "resistance day" to make a point?)

...and hey, Israel has freak'n 9 Million Jews!!! That's 9 million too many to any and all proper Muslims throughout the entire region, so nah, no existential threat. It's all in their head--and they have a margin of error 9 million ppl deep! What's the problem he'ah?

...and of course, when the dust settles, why Israel will have killed off more terrorists than they lost civilians, so by golly, let the terrorist have their day!

They're trying their level best to get them some nukes...what do you suppose they'll do with 'em? We damn sure know what they dream about doing....

And btw, they're not an existential threat because the US is still the US, and they know that if they try to erase Israel, it wouldn't be Israel they'd have to be concern with--it would be the US.

    But for how long?

We've already seen so much of the US -Israeli alliance...weaken.

That's one of the biggest causes of concern re. the demonstrations against Israel, here stateside.

Yep, Iran has the will. All they have been lacking is the means. Do not think for a minute if they had the means to nuke a US city that they would not do it. They want to erase Israel and the US.

It’s not like they hide this, either. We are the “Great Satan”. There is deep, dark hate for everything Western by the Iranian ruling clergy

Do you mean with Arab nations that don't want to kill them because they are Jewish?

They will do what everyone else does with them, have a seat at the big boy table and pursue their interests. If you think they are nihilists just waiting to get nukes to destroy Israel and themselves in the process, well I dont think you are very serious.
