Schools/NCAA want to be involved as intermediaries for major contracts between sponsors/advertisers and adult athletes? Hmmm - I am sure they just want to be “helpful” and have no desire to take some of that cash.

NCAA/NFL/schools made billions for years while pretending that college football players were students first. Could have done many things (health care, stipends, etc) but the ncaa was so greedy that they were laughed out of a Supreme Court Incredulous at their claims of amateurism.

Now, in their wisdom, the schools/NCAA want back in control? Nah - at least now the farce of amateurism is gone and maybe they can deal with schools/alums paying players and how that effects competition.

Following on, kind of love the honesty of Stoops calling on UK alumni to give more to NIL if they want to compete with Georgia. I’m sure the irony of this is entirely lost on UK basketball fans.
You Want Better Players, Pony Up The Money: Kentucky’s Mark Stoops Used Georgia As Example For Buying A Better Roster With NIL

Do the NCAA, schools, or conferences actually care enough about a truly competitive landscape to actually negotiate an agreement with players that enables some form of competitive parity, or is is their only real interest keeping the gravy train going? Rhetorical question….

So where is this going to go? Are alums/fat cat boosters going to continue to just throw money at these programs (my cousins in MS want to pay the 100M buyout for Brian Kelly) non stop? It's one thing to be the big shot with the $500 handshakes, quite another to be just another mark for some marketing/sales hack working for "the collective." Going to be interesting. Does the money go away, or do the boosters just get replaced?

In the end, they are now slaves to the $$$$$. Whether they want to be or not is irrelevant at this point.

Well Nick Saban himself suggested making players employees.

    Thanks SBG.
The game is being led down the primrose path.

2021-2022. Univ Presidents: LETS DO NIL, Transfer Portal and Conference Expansion, take the NCAA out of the equation. Us BAMA types, while we do pay them (NCAA) off to cheat, need more security in our cheating.

2023-24. Bama types, hey this cheating is getting out of control. How dare others to cheat at our level !!
Answer: I know, let's put the NCAA back in charge!

Whatever dude. At this point the NFL has 1000x more integrity. There are actual rules. There are salary caps, free agent windows, etc. and their professional athletes are more talented and better at their job.

If this is simply about letting schools look into their player's NIL deals and help them make an informed decision then I think that should be okay. If that is all this is about.

The NCAA is getting involved to protect the interests of the sacred cow programs. Their selective enforcement practices have always perpetuated the good fortunes of the anointed.

I didn't see how Title IX could come into play with the changes proposed. As I understand it, Title IX is about equal treatment . . . as in equal opportunity. As long as a school makes NIL-related advice equally available, the $$$$$ is still coming from a third party and Title IX can't tell me who I have to give money to or that I have to give it equally to anyone. It can't say the women's sports have to receive equal NIL $$$ from a third party.

Now, I'm more than sure some attorney would file a creative lawsuit alleging some violation of Title IX. They can sue and allege anything. The worst thing possible for schools would be to direct the distribution of $$$ . . . as in give it to the school and let them divide it up. Then I cold easily see a Title IX issue arising and a lawsuit filed before the sun set.

Surely their lawyers would give better advice than that.

Edit: Stoops just said, from @SeabudGator's link, that the LegHumpers BUY their team. We all knew that but to hear a head coach from a major conference saying it is significant I think.

“The other side of that is blame, complain, deny or make excuses and we’re not gonna do that,” Mark Stoops noted. “Fans have that right, I’ll give it to them. I just encourage them to donate more because that’s what those teams are doing. I can promise you Georgia, they bought some pretty good players. You’re allowed to these days. We could use some help.

“That’s what they look like when you got 85 of em. So I encourage anybody that’s disgruntled to pony up some more (money).”

The current class action lawsuit if won would allow schools to directly pay which brings in title IX.

Who has filed it and upon what grounds? Surely the schools aren't asking to direct the distribution of $$$ . . . are they?

Edit: When I finished reading everything Stoops whined about, it came across (to me) as him blaming the fans for not paying enough $$$ for him to pay all the players he wants.

Thanks. So the NCAA has basically stipulated any remaining NIL rules go out the window. I still don't see how specific schools can be affirmatively forced to make NIL payments. They are not before the Court. Only the NCAA. What am I missing?

Edit: I think I now see where the lawyers are, potentially, trying to get to (schools or Conferences and their TV money). I don't think it will work though.

If the NCAA and the conferences lose the lawsuit the rules will be negated. Allowing schools to make direct payments if they wish. Once one school does it the rest will fall in line.
