    It's wishful thinking.

Here's what we know: It's not one percent of the Palestinian population that supports Hamas.

It's at least around half, and more than likely more than half.

Gonna leave that to Israel. Now if the other Arab states decide to get involved in a humanitarian effort, good, but that problem can’t be solved with US dollars. Hey, maybe Iran could fund such an effort with their recent windfall?

What happened in Israel wasn't war.

They were targeting civilians... They were selectively targeting defenseless people... raping them, killing them, mutilating their bodies, celebrating it, then filming it so they can brag to the rest of the world.

If all you need to do this to innocent people is opportunity and rage, you're an evil person. There's no way around that.

I def understand that about Hamas. It's their stated intention to destroy Israel and I would have no problem in destroying them. But we can't so directly tie political support among civilians in voting for Hamas as govt as a justification for killing all those who might have voted for them, and certainly not indiscriminate annihilation. Long held ethical & moral conventions & international law (think law of war; treaties etc.) rightly prohibit this.

If it wasn't, why did Israel literally declare war?

Because those were acts of terror.

They are now responding to acts of terror organized by Hamas with a declaration of war.

Your boiling it down to an economic or supply side equation, you know it's much more than that:

    Culture
    Family Connections
    Religon
    Belief Systems

Handing someone MRE's does not usually change ones beliefs, even if those beliefs are skewed to lunacy.

Hamas was elected by the Palestinians in Gaza in 2006, primarily in response to corruption in the Palestinian Authority under the leadership Yasser Arafat. There hasn't been a free and fair election or in fact an election of any kind since then. Although the two organizations aren't actually linked in any way, Hamas has evolved into a Palestinian version of ISIS.

Poll finds dramatic rise in Palestinian support for Hamas

"The poll found that 53% of Palestinians believe Hamas is “most deserving of representing and leading the Palestinian people,” while only 14% prefer Abbas’ secular Fatah party."

So they needed to declare a war so they could respond to acts that weren't war? That really makes no sense. Seems pretty obvious the Israelis view what happened as acts of war, and they are responding in kind.

It will get ugly. Already is and it's a horrendous tragedy in which right now I can only imagine terrible consequences very long into the future. But to be clear, I'm not arguing for Israel to do nothing. I was reacting to the several comments that suggested or supported indiscriminate annihilation of all Palestinians.

Hamas isn't ISIS, that's what will come next if they succeed in giving Hamas the Al Qaeda treatment and dispersing the Palestinian population through violence. No one ever learns anything, do they.

    Such an interesting thread.
    -Universal agreement we support Israel
-Righties acting like they are Rambo incarnate
-Righties jumping on any expression of sympathy for Palestinians
-Righties trying to somehow blame Joe Biden

I just dont get you guys.

If I may be so bold:

The Rubicon has been crossed. Benny and several high profile cabinet members have literally gone on TV and promised hell on earth.

The baser instincts of war, murder and revenge will now control the narrative. Human dignity and the Social Compact are destroyed.

This will be resolved in only one way.............. BLOOD.

I’m fine with Israel doing whatever it is they need to do even if there’s unavoidable collateral damage. Terrorism this egregious needs to be met with tremendous force. Sucks but I don’t see any other way.

I don't disagree. Think I said that, in the way I word things (RTP, etc.). I just think he makes some interesting points for a longer timeline

Undersood and I totally agree, did not mean to imply otherwise.

Hopefully acts of mercy and humanity will begin to take hold.
I fear that may be a long time coming.
