    Recruiting Roundup: September 2023

Recruiting Roundup: September 2023 - College Gym News

Good update on top gymnasts in the 2025 class.

5 stars Jocelyn Sasson and Madelyn Dorbin committed to UF earlier this week.

Based on visits, it looks like 5-star gymnast Jasmine Cawley is interested in the SEC. Jasmine has already visited Alabama, Arkansas, and Georgia. She has worked with Brandy Johnson's in the Orlando area since 2019. I like UF's chances to get a visit and a commitment. It wouldn't surprise me if she has already made unofficial visits to UF.

Mackenzie Estep, fellow 5-star gymnast and teammate with Jocelyn Sasson at Ascend (WA), has visited Utah, Oklahoma, Florida, and LSU and is rumored by tiger droppings to have a visit to UCLA coming up. Have to like this photo of Mackenzie whether she joins Jocelyn as a Gator or not:

@mackenzie.estep2025 is off to Gainesville for her Official Visit with @gatorsgym Hope it is an incredible weekend! #ncaagymnastics… | Instagram

5-star Nina Ballou out of south Florida has visited Florida, LSU, and Oklahoma. Tiger droppings thinks this will be a UF vs. LSU battle. I wouldn't so quickly discount her visit to Oklahoma.

The list includes the 13 5-star gymnasts plus selected to watch other gymnasts.

World Gymnastics Championships Results for Women's All-Around:

    Medal Gymnast Country Score
    Gold Simone Biles USA 58.399
    Silver Rebeca Andrade Brazil 56.766
    Bronze Shilese Jones USA 56.322

Andrade won the Gold Medal in all-around in the 2022 World Championships.

Shilese Jones won the Silver Medal in 2022. She was ahead of Andrade headed into floor but did not do her best to slip to third place. Still, Shilese is right on target for Paris 24 coming out of Worlds.

    World Championship Saturday Finals:

    Vault (9 Finalists):

    1. Rebecca Andrade Gold
    2. Simone Biles Silver
    7. Leanne Wong

    Uneven Bars (9 Finalists)

    3. Shilese Jones Silver
    5. Simone Biles

Sunday Finals will be 8 finalists each for beam and floor after Saturday's final qualifying:

    Beam:

    1. Simone Biles
    5. Shilese Jones

    Floor:

    1. Simone Biles
    5. Shilese Jones

I expect both events to be hotly contested.

Leanne Wong and Simone Biles at Worlds vault finals:

Leanne Wong Competes in World Championships Vault Final - Florida Gators

Leanne Wong and Coach Owen Field:

    Owen Field on X: "✅ Event Finals @antwerp2023! It’s GREAT to be a FLORIDA GATOR. #GoUSA #GoGators #GatorNation https://t.co/qoZ88VG2l1" / X (twitter.com)

Leanne didn't medal but 7th in the World ain't bad. Leanne was 10th in qualifying but improved to 7th in the vault final while filling in for Joscelyn Roberson. With a better second vault, Leanne would have been close to the Bronze Medal.

Worlds finished with finals for beam and floor. Eight finalists competed in each event:

    Beam:

    1. Simone Biles Gold
    7. Shilese Jones

    Floor:

    1. Simone Biles Gold
    5. Shilese Jones

What I want to hear next about Shilese Jones is she has signed her LOI in November with Florida.

Official Weekend Visits with 2025 Recruits:

    Dr. Sam, PhD on X: "This weekend’s @GatorsGym official visit: No. 3 Jasmine Cawley (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Haley Mustardi (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Charlotte Booth (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Ashlee Sullivan (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) Sage Curtis (⭐️⭐️⭐️) https://t.co/oYsOQ7fc0H" / X (twitter.com)

    L to R:

Ashlee Sullivan 4 stars rated #17 overall. Ashlee works with WOGA (TX). Ashlee has visited Michigan, Auburn, and UF.

Jasmine Cawley 5 stars rated #3 overall. Jasmine works with Brandy Johnson's (FL). As mentioned in previous posts, Jasmine has visited only SEC schools, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, and now UF. I like UF's chances, but I'm thinking she may visit LSU as her teammate Charlotte Booth has already done.

Haley Mustardi 4 stars rated #15 overall. Haley works with Dynamo (OK). She has so far visited Utah, Oklahoma, and UF.

Charlotte Booth 4 star rated #26 overall. Charlotte works with Brandy Johnson's (FL) so she is a teammate with Jasmine Cawley. The folks over on Tiger Droppings Gymnastics like her and think LSU has an excellent chance of landing her in their class. Charlotte is strong on vault and bars with high scores of 10.0 and 9.9. With the UF visit, Charlotte has completed 5 official visits, Auburn, Alabama, Oklahoma, LSU, and UF.

Sage Curtis 3 star rated #60 overall. Sage works with Olympus Gymnastics (UT). She has so far visited Utah, Utah State, and UF. She has no high score listed on College Gym News for bars so apparently Sage is only working vault, beam, and floor which could account for her 3-star rating.

With so many 2025 recruits out on official visits, it looks like quite a few commitments will be popping up around the nation with the gymnasts likely signing in the early November signing period.

UF has two 5-star gymnasts committed in the 2025 class.

So it begins, those who have completed their official visits are beginning to commit:

Elyse Wenner 4 star and rated #16 overall committed to LSU.
Norah Christian 4 star and rated #29 overall committed to Auburn.
Brynn Torrey 4 star and rated #34 overall committed to Auburn.

Two gymnasts who have completed their 5 official visits and have visited UF are Nina Ballou and Charlotte Booth. I'd expect both to make commitments sooner rather than later.

Long way off, but I'm guessing 5 or so. The final number would be decided by any transfers out as there always seems to be someone who can't crack UF's lineups but can elsewhere or transfers in, if Shilese Jones actually turns up at UF, and what Morgan Hurd does after Victoria Nguyen graduates or if her injuries persist. Recruiting is too fluid to predict an exact number.

There are a couple of more 5-star gymnasts and a couple of 4-star gymnasts UF would take in a New York minute, where is gatornharlem to explain that phrase. Room can always be made by the time enrollment begins for the 25 class.

Apparently, 5-star and #3 rated Jasmine Cawley out of Brandy Johnson's in Clermont, FL has a visit coming up to UCLA. If so, she won't be visiting LSU unless on an unofficial visit. I don't see that happening. I'm sticking with my prediction that she will end up with UF.

    Jasmine's Finalists:

    FLORIDA
    Alabama
    Arkansas
    Georgia
    UCLA

Charlotte Booth 4-star and #28 rated has completed her official visits after her UF visit. She too is from Brandy Johnson's in Clermont, FL.

    Charlotte's Finalists:

    Florida
    LSU
    Alabama
    Auburn
    Oklahoma

The LSU folks at Tiger Droppings Gymnastics feels good about Charlotte. I have no prediction.

I expect both Jasmine and Charlotte to announce their intentions sooner rather than later now that they both will have completed their official visits after this weekend.

In a no surprise commitment, Sage Curtis has committed to Utah.

Sage Curtis (@sage_curtis2025) • Instagram photos and videos

Sage visited UF last weekend. She is a 3-star gymnast who works out of Olympus Gymnastics (UT). She only has scores on vault, beam, and floor which likely accounts for her lower rating. Utah is Sage's dream school which allows her to stay home in Utah. Good for her. Hope the coaching situation works out to her advantage. A rumor out of Utah going around is Kara Eaker is leaving Utah and may give up gymnastics.

It didn't take long for Jasmine Cawley to make my prediction look bad. (chuckle)

    2025-6 Jasmine Cawley to Alabama - CollegeGymFans.com

The 5 star and #3 rated gymnast in the 25-class committed to Alabama late on Friday. Jasmine would have been a good add for UF. Good on bama to pick her up.

I don't know if UF has inroads with any other 5-star gymnasts. Having two in the class puts UF ahead of everyone not named Oklahoma who has the #'s 1 & 2 gymnasts in the 25 class.

There is still no word on Jasmine's Brandy Johnson's teammate Charlotte Booth although LSU fans have felt good about her for quite a while.
