It wasn’t just that and it wasn’t any one political leader. There was also the Iron Dome; the spread of the Islamic State, which sucked all of the crazies out of Israel and into Syria and Iraq; the Arabs seemed to be more interested in economic development than in war, which has always gone poorly for the Arabs anyway; and Iran had emerged as the greatest threat, needing the most attention. People, even in Israel, get complacent with security measures.

Right. Obviously it wouldn’t make sense. Even if he leaked items that shouldn’t have been. If it was pertaining to Israel (or any ally, or our own defense), that would immediately stand out differently than a “oops, you want too far about those details on ISIS Mr. President”.

Which is why I doubted if Trump gave up anything useful to Hamas - seems overly speculative. Wouldn’t likely have happened at that Lavrov meeting. It’s only a suspicion because when he subsequently met with the Russians Mr. Trump typically made sure our own govt was blind. And of course, after his Presidency his intentional theft of highly classified materials that he planned to do lord knows what with. To be clear, I severely doubt a line could be drawn. If any of his treasure horde had anything to do with Israel that would be eyebrow raising. But that’s what I mean by needing evidence.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I put nothing past Trump, mostly because he’s the worst kind of stupid: the kind who believes in their heart that they are smarter than everyone else. I see I got tagged with an “optimistic” for my above post. That is not necessarily what I believe happened. That is just what I can surmise from the information available today. If Trump told Lavrov the number of rockets fired simultaneously necessary to penetrate the Iron Dome, and there were witnesses, then I have no doubt it will come to light, not as rumor but as sworn testimony.

Did a deep dive last night and watched some of the official videos that Hamas released of this whole thing. Really wish I hadn’t.

    &

Well then....how did his comment--which he readily owned was off topic--undermine Israel?

The point seemed only to call into question the efficacy of a safe room, not the wisdom of having or requiring one (which imo, was well within the scope of the topic as an organic outgrowth).

People like to forget that these are the same people who were decapitating innocent hostages and posting the videos twenty years ago. Nothing has changed except the amount of money that Iran has been allowed to give them. Unfortunately, there are enough bleeding hearts who will see to it that there is a ceasefire right before Israel takes the kill shots in Gaza and Tehran. The UN will see to it.

Just because this is the largest action taken by these sick bastards doesn’t mean it’s the first. People with open eyes and ears know full well what they are capable of. The entire Iranian military and intelligence/terror structure should be destroyed before the one week mark of this tragedy.

    No. I do not.
The virtuous intellectuals think evil and violence goes away on it's own. Through negotiations, appeasement, or turning a blind eye.
There is only one way to deal with it. Look it in the eye, and destroy it. Take it's will to live and exist away.

Why does Gaza Strip need Israel for electrical power ? Why don’t they get that from eqypt? Or build out infrastructure for it.

Ah yes, so wise, evil can definitely be destroyed in a final confrontation by doing evil acts yourself, and everyone lives happily ever after

It obviously worked so well in Iraq and Afghanistan, let’s go for the trifecta!

Do you see it as ironic when we kill off cancer cells to save the organism (person, usually)?

You might have a point if this was a conventional war. But the terrorists hide amongst women and children. Like the cowards they are.

Well I'm against torture, and this sure is a tortured metaphor. If you believe in collective punishment you are a barbarian, sorry. Hamas killing civilians with rockets, Israel leveling Gaza killing civilians, what's the difference?

....as cancer develops within the organism, sometimes within a specific organ or tissue, sometimes throughout the organism, as with blood cancer, or other metastasis...

That doesn't conflict with my analogy at all.

It worked with ISIS. And the Nazis.

We didn't really attempt that in Iraq. We attempted to influence the culture, and work within the existing society.

As for Afghanistan--we first sought to exterminate the Taliban, then tried working with them. Perhaps carpet bombing and other drastic action could have prevailed--perhaps we just weren't that determined.

...but yes, you can root out evil.

"Defund the police" bc there will always be criminals, does nothing more than enable the proliferation of crime and criminals.

That's like not bothering to fight mold and bacteria in your kitchen, because there will always be mold and bacteria.
