A Trump supporter was seated next to an older woman on an airplane and he turned to her and said, “Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.” The old woman, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, “What would you want to talk about?” “Oh, I don’t know,” said the man. “How about how they stole the election in 2020 and Donald Trump should be president.” “Okay,” she said. “Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff – grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?” The man, visibly surprised by the old woman’s, thinks about it and says, “Hmmm, I have no idea.” To which the old woman replies, “Do you really feel qualified to discuss politics, when you don’t know sh!*?”
jj, yer baaack. ready to answer the question tilly and I asked of you this past summer? it appeared you took a your announced break from too hot to avoid responding to us. say it ain't so... for a refresher the question asked you, "who told you that you were going to hell?" we are still awaiting your answer. __________________ as an aside - i am posting in all lowercase letters in verti's honor today. and the joke, it is funny
Oh sweetie, I wasn’t avoiding anything. As far as that question goes I’m so glad you asked because I was just about to explain. But first let me thank you so much for keeping me in your thoughts these past few months. Most people would have just shrugged and moved on, and the fact that you held on to that question says you’re special. I’m reminded of something that happened when I was teaching. Walking through the hallways at my high school, I saw a new substitute teacher standing outside his classroom with his forehead against a locker. I heard him mutter, “How did you get yourself into this?” Knowing he was assigned to a difficult class, I tried to offer moral support. “Are you okay?” I asked. “Can I help?” He lifted his head and replied, “I’ll be fine as soon as I get this kid out of his locker.” Now unfortunately for some I’m not allowed in Hell. While I was away Satan slapped me with a restraining order and I can’t go anywhere near it.
"oh sweetie" - you remind me of one of my sisters-in-law. Do you write the looped tails of your y's and g's with a clawed arch? a clever side step. since we both know the answer to tilly's and my question, i'll let it slide with your bullshit avoidance effort. it's a common deflective tactic. using bullshit to avoid answering a question one wishes to avoid having to answer tells me what i need to know of your intent and motivation. i for one would never tell someone to go to a non existant place, andi intuit the same in tilly. you can tell the kid in the locker it's safe to come out now. welcome back; post with care. this forum is a minefield full of bullshit. make a false step and you could end up in a mess.
let's not turn this thread into a biblical debate. but fact is the original greek word that is translated to hell in english, is gehenna or gehinnom in aramaic and hebrew. then translated further into greek as gehenna. it is the name of a garbage dump in a valley outside the walls of the ancient city of jerusalem where the fires that consumed and destroyed garbage and other unclean things were never extinguished. Jesus metaphorically referenced it several times as a place where offensive body parts should be destroyed. biblical literalists believe it is a place of punishment that actually exists for the damned dead. i'm not a literalist and inclined to believe any suffering we endure this side of the grave, like verti's sjogren's, cancer, or any other type of suffering is more likely a qualifier for a description of hell. My beliefs are few, but I do believe - anticipate - the experience of death will be more like being born into something indescribably better than what we experience here. It's more than a belief, more like an instinct.
Actually I’m not avoiding anything, just trying to avoid conflict. But since you feel the need to persist please direct me to the post where I said any of that so we can put this to rest.
No it doesn’t quite say that. Put that wide paintbrush down before you hurt yourself. One does not need to practice organized religion to be a believer and live the word of Christ. Just as practicing organized religion is not even a strong indication that one is living the word of Christ. There are no sinners without a future or saints without a past.
au contraire. it was the perfect thread with no point to the OP but to tell a joke about a woman who wanted nothing but to read her book shutting down her seatmate with a clever riddle he could not answer. last summer jj, the teller of the joke evaded a question tilly asked of her on a thread late last June and she immediately announced she was taking a sabbatical from Too Hot. speculation at the time generally concluded she timed her announcement so she could leave and not have to answer the question tilly had asked of her - - who were the two mods she said believe she is headed to hell? i imagine it was a bit uncomfortable being put on the hot seat when she would have to admit there was not even a single mod who told her any such thing. Roseanne Barr on the Holocaust "LOL! I’m not going to touch that. I already have two mods who believe I’m headed to Hell"
Her statement seems in jest to me. She never said 2 mods told her she was going to hell. She said (jokingly I think) that 2 mods believed she was going to hell. Many Christians believe I'm going to hell too.
Since all religions say you are going to hell if you don't believe in them and reject the alternatives, and since there are well more than 2 religions, .... we are all going to hell. If you believe in that stuff.
Since this thread has been hijacked I’m reminded of a going to hell joke. Priest - Don't drink too much liquor. You will go to Hell. Alcoholic - Is it? What about the guy who sells the liquor? Priest - He will also go to Hell. Alcoholic - Ok, what about the guy who sells pork tacos in the food truck outside the Liquor Store? Priest - He too will go to Hell. Alcoholic - In that case, I have no problem going to Hell.
Wow Lacuna. First - Verti Sjogren's - Had to look that up. Sounds rather unpleasant. Second - Two persons have really helped me to better undersand Christianity, and the ancient world during the time of Christ. 1) Dr Bart Ehrman / Biblical Scholar, (Princeton and UNC) formerly a born again Christian (Moodys Bible Seminary) now, as per his personal description: Agnostic / Atheist. I have NEVER found a scholar with such an incredible knowledge of the period, the Scriptures, the Gospels, Greek, Hebrew and Latin. Some consider him the preeminent (secular) scholar on this topic in the USA. 2) Derek Lambert (Myth Vision) - A brilliant young man (IMO) that was a bible thumping "hook line and sinker" saving souls for Jesus type. Funny thing, he is SMART, exceptionally so, and his BRAIN got in the way of the CULT. Derek is young, handsome and has an appealing nature. I am very grateful to him and his MYTH-VISION podcast because his is an exceptional journey of exploration on a very difficult topic indeed. Interestingly Derek is a great fit for me. He has serious command of scripture and the Christian ethos. His explorations, research, and answers, justified my rather uneducated concerns and later beliefs on the subject. I was saved at 15, you know, the age where the only thing one understands is basicly nothing or what momma and daddy told you. Clearly Dereks dealing with this topic was painful because his confusion and the conflict between reality and cultism caused him to dabble in drug addiction for a time. (Like myself) Derek brings renowned scholar after scholar into the fray and it's not all one sided. He invites experts in the field from both sides to openly debate the subject. Nor does he ATTACK Christians, he tries to find truth, but importantly OUTSIDE of Church controlled Canon. I am NOT a beliver now but have found great comfort in identifying other people, people with the brains and resources to do secular research on the subject that validate my own beliefs. In other words it was a relief to know I was not the only (doubting Thomas) ..... play on words. I suspect you are familiar with Dr Ehrman, if you are not I suspect you will be as enthralled by him as I am should you look into him. Thanks for reading and I know this is off topic.
She wanted to know who told me I was going to hell. Pretty hard question to answer since I never said someone told me I was going. Just that a couple of mods believed it. It was in the Roseanne thread.
