Disagree slightly. If we lose simply because SC is the better team, then I think fans can stomach that. If we lose due to a high number of penalties, poor coaching decisions and uninspired play, then yes, the coach/s will be questioned. This team is average to slightly above average, and the slightly above average nod comes with playing at home. Every game left will be difficult to win so the coaching staff needs to do their job just as much as the players. From what I have seen thus far, two more wins, SC and Ark, are the best chances we have. I don't think this young team and their young coaches are yet good enough to win any of the others.
We desperately need to get a road win this year. South Carolina is probably our best shot, then Mizzu, with LSU being tough sledding. Winning a 12:00 start or in the cold would also go a long way towards getting over the mental hump. If we could beat Mizzu this year it could cover all three plus our notable lack of success against them. If we can win at least one road game and beat Arkansas at home, it would put us in a decent place to play FSU.
Hmmm . . . this is the Gators/fans we are talking about, yes? I could be wrong, but get a sense that we could win the t/o battle, rush for more yds, have fewer penalties, and no ST screwups and folks would find excuses to scream bloody murder about a loss to SC. and blame the coaches along the way.
We don't. I thought stealing one from either Missouri or SC would be possible but after watching SC play Lsu I just don't see the Muschamp offense winning. Especially with the game in October. If you thought we suck as a road team we suck even worse in cold weather. If we can't scrape a win vs SC say hello 4 win season. Gator football enjoys a long bowl free holiday season.
I predicted 6-7 and that we’d lose to Tenn and beat KY. So that’s wash. If we beat USCe we’re 5-2 and only need two more to ensure a winning season. But then I thought we were going to win eight after the MO win last year.
I watched the 4th quarter. And I watched Missouri play with urgency while taking their offense up and down the field. Two things we don't do at UF. I believe we have a slim to no chance against this Missouri offense with our muschamp offense. Don't know what game you watched.
Heck, even if we win, some fans will find things to complain about. Some people are just wired that way.
People really like to dismiss that team and I don't agree, at all. Of course the offense was ugly at times but so was 2006. 92 Bama was given no chance against Miami in the sugar bowl and Miami got smoked. That was the same 92 Bama team our "underperforming" offense with two true freshmen starters on the offensive line took to the wire in the SEC championship game. If we didn't have a flukey 6 turnover game against Georgia in 2012we play Bama for a title. That defense could keep us in any game. We win a title running away with a better offense but we were better than our own Gator fans give us credit for. We'd have given them a better game than notre dame that's for sure.
Thank you. The 12 team was legit. The problem was they sort of gave up after the Ga loss because back then we were out. We had zero shot at the playoffs/ SECCG. So we slept walked through Mizzou and LA- somebody. But then we turned it on again at FSU- and that was a very good team. We mailed it in vs. Louisville, but many good teams don't show up in their bowl games.
We have been on a string of terrible timing and luck. In today's game we make the playoffs all things being the same.
FWIW, in SEC Team Offense we are 2 spots behind Missouri. Around 60 yards, or 12%. We rush more, so fewer plays, etc. Nationally, Mizzou has the #22 offense in yards per game, we are #58. We have the #16 defense, they have the #51. We have the #25 hardest schedule, they have the #72 schedule, which impacts offense/defense numbers. 4 of their 5 wins: "SDAK" (who is that), MTSU, Memphis, Vanderbilt. You talked LSU. Good point! Missouri put up a ton of yards, especially passing. Though also: two interceptions. But our offense is going against their defense, which gave up 527. At home. (Admittedly, LSU's offense is freaking rolling.) But even against chumps, they give up a lot of yards. While all of this can be argued, none of this screams "we have slim to no chance." My take: Mizzou favored because they are at home, not because they are notably better all-around football team.
Ummm we struggled to put up points all year against sec competition and put up 21 against fsu. Lost to auburn, needed the cock block and reggie nelson pick 6 put the game away against Bama. Also, needed Tebow gadget plays to get points against lsu. Edit to add the actual results. Worse than I remembered especially considering how stout the defense was that year. Also special teams gave us short fields, points and momentum plays and yet we didn't put up more than 20 something offensive points in an SEC game until the sec title game. Feasted on patsies that year until something clicked the last 2 games 2006 Football Schedule - Florida Gators
