No one is seriously suggesting declaring war on Iran for this. It also is not a false choice between general war and doing nothing in terms of economic and military pressure against Iran. They are simply not a party with which you engage in liberal democratic deals. You engage in realist deals with them only, that is for instance only to say what we will do when they ratchet up their abysmal behavior, such as taking hostages or supporting international terrorism. We will destroy or seize all elements of their national power the moment it leaves Iran and we sense it. When they ratchet down their behavior, we, too, will deescalate. That’s a pattern of behavior a realist regime like Iran understands and can’t just laugh at like they do when we pay them tribute.

Oh, I agree. Iran has proven at every opportunity that they cannot be trusted, and bluntly, they don’t even seem to want to be trusted. Their leadership wants a fundamentalist Shia-lead world. It’s that simple.

The WH sending the $6 billion in sanctioned Iranian money to Qatar is essentially like making a deposit into a bank that funds Islamic extremism, including Hamas. The transfer gave Iran a $6 billion line of credit – or, put another way, was essentially a deposit into an Iranian escrow account. Qatar can give Iran money, money from the nation-state of Qatar, while still holding the $6 billion transferred from Biden/Blinken on their books.

We’ll find out soon enough if leveling Gaza stops the onslaught.

So Bibi was warned by Egypt something was coming. He did nothing.

Much like Trump with 1/6, this is all another Putin backed operation to get Bibi an enemy to stay in power. Just like Trump wanted to do using 1/6 as cover.

I am no B.N. fan, quite the contrary and I have no doubt the extremists in his faction have created an environment that is culpable in what happened Saturday.

Having posted that Hamas nor Gaza was the victim on Saturday. If this was a cynical effort by Iran to derail the normilization of Israeli / Saudi relations it's despicable.

I think the Iran thing is being hyped by bad intentioned Americans, who just have a thing for making Iran the bad guy and seem to be itching for war with them. Ironically they are many of the same people who cant stand our semi-involvement in Ukraine. There are no principles to it.

I dont think Putin had to do anything. At least as far back as 2019 Bibi said Likud strategy was empowering Hamas because they believed it would ensure a Palestinian state wouldn't happen.

I don't think is all bad intentioned, though there is some of that.

Iran is generally the "enemy" for most of our preferred positions in the region. And they act on it. So that creates a lot of US animus based on concrete Iranian actions.

The question is whether that is because Iran is "anti-American", or because our preferred power structure in the region is fundamentally at odds with their self-appointed role as Shiite defender, combined with their fundamental and often unworkable and self-defeating aversion to great powers and belief in some form of Persian juche, and, relatedly, their inability to develop amnesia that most nations do abut interest based relationships.

They don't want to be our ally but they don't necessarily want to be our "enemy". And of course things can and will change as leadership ages out.

Well I'm not one of them.

If you follow PITTBOSS's Ukranian War thread you would know I am "All-In" with Ukraine and, in fact, have contributed finanically to their war effort.

Regarding Iran, I will confess to understanding that Iranian and, in fact, every Middle East country has legit beefs with the Imperialistic West for trepidations in that region. One merely needs to review Eisenhower and Britians shennanigans with the Shaw, to understand the depth of that injustice.

But my "sympathy" for Iran only goes so far. The Ayatollah and his minions made me sick and the Clerics that run that show still do.

I have my own particular "world views" and you will find that I am particularily disgusted with religous fanatics of any bent, including Christians, but especially Muslims, controlling countries and the persons that reside therein.

If given a choice between choosing sides, I'm going with the half baked democratic contract that exists in Israel right now as compared to that hornets nest of religous zealots, hypocrites, anti female, mind controlling cretins, that pretend to worship and obey the Koran in that part of Persia.

No way this is true. US may be uncomfortable with indiscriminate attacks and mass civilian causalties. But the US would NEVER be calling for a ceasefire now

This whole thing stinks to me. You're telling me the most surveilled country in the world didn't see them moving all that ordinance and equipment into position? NSA/Mossad missed this much buildup?

Why has the U.S. intensified its spying on Israel?

Hell, we've sent Palestinian Authority half a billion since 2020, and just sent them armored vehicles via Jordan.

Hamas didn't need the funds from Iran as people have argued about above. But it does bear the markers of a Hezbollah style assault.

Even Bibi said this is Israel's 9/11. Don't be surprised if this thing goes hot between Israel and Iran. Israel's been looking for an excuse for a while now, as did the hawks in the pre-Trump GOP. Think John McCain and Lindsey Graham.
