Many years ago, while living in metro Atlanta, I was up late one night with a west coast Braves game on the TV. The Braves were in SD (I think) and the good guys were beating the shnizzle out of the Padres with Skip Cary calling the game. Suddenly, an incredibly loud fan (only a few feet from the booth) with a deep gravelly voice and a strong Bronx accent yelled a string of profanity laden insults at a Padre SS who booted a double play grounder that was hit right to him. The tirade touched on the SS's lack of professionalism, exact placement in the animal kingdom, his direct lineage on the maternal side of the family and suggested that he should look for employment elsewhere. Skip was, along with Otis Boggs and Vin Scully, among my favorite sportscasters ever. And his comment after a brief instant in which half the city of Atlanta and everyone in the booth fell into stunned silence, cemented his place in history for me; "Well... so much for wholesome, family entertainment!" Then he picked up as if nothing had ever happened. Braves won.

 

Gary Templeton?

 

TBH, It was so long ago I don't remember.

 

Templeton took over for Ozzie Smith as they were traded for each other and played throughout the 80s. He wasnt the fielder that ozzie was but if he got his hands on the ball he would throw the dude out. He had a canon.

 

Had the privilege to go to San Diego a few times and found it to be a uniquely special place. Props to you for having your time there.

 

I loved it in the 80, ‘s till early 90’s but I’ve been back a few times as I still have people to visit but it isn’t the same. Way too crowded anymore.

 

No one goes to San Diego anymore. It's way too crowded...
