So first off for those traveling to Columbia, be aware that it’s fair week, so plan accordingly when it comes to parking. I won’t give a full scouting report on us, but just a few notes. offensive line: has been pretty offensive for SC so far. if they keep on going at the pace they are, by years end they will give up close to 57 sacks which will be a school record. With that being said Spencer Rattler has been having a good year if he’s kept upright. Mertz is actually 1 spot ahead of him in passing yardage. Matter of fact side by side in overall statistics they are very similar. The RB situation is very rocky. Dakeron Joyner came out of the spring as starting RB a position he’s never played before until this year. He’s a 6th year senior, who’s played just about every position on the offensive side of the ball. The bad thing is he just doesn’t have the vision to be a RB. He gets touched and he goes down. Meanwhile his backup Mario Anderson ( transfer from Newberry college) leads the team in rushing at 230 yards and 2 td’s with his longest being a 67 yarder against UT. Joyner the starter only has 100 yards rushing with 4 touchdowns. WR’s are banged up, but Xavier Leggette is the star at wideout. This year he has 32 receptions, 606 yards and 3 touchdowns. He averages 18.9 yards per reception and is on the Biletnikoff watch list.. Defensive line has not been getting a push all year and the LB’s are slow. The talent at CB is not that great, but the safeties are solid led by Nick Emmanwori. They play a very bend don’t break defense. The way I’ve seen it this is when we sell out for the run, we are good at stopping but give up big passing plays. I’m still not thrilled with our DB’s playing 10 yards off the Receivers, but that seems to be a trend with college defenses. Look forward to this week…
Thanks for the breakdown. Your "10 yards off the ball" gave me a flashback. Had to sit down for a while. I'm a fan of Sagarin rankings. But halfway through the season, it has 2-3 USCe well ahead of us. ESPN's FPI has USCe ahead of Missouri and Kentucky. The one real win is against MSU, which is second-from-bottom in SEC FPI. Sagarin has your schedule as #1 in the whole dang country. That's...surprising.
Would love to be friendly and reciprocate with a scouting report but unfortunately I don't know who you are going to play this week.
Thanks 3877. I suppose the Cocks start out of the gate has been disappointing considering the preseason expectation. Considering your breakdown and the record, I am cautiously optimistic UF can compete, all things considered. Looking forward to it too.
It’s a game I’d like to go to, I think I would enjoy seeing their campus and stadium, South Carolina definitely has some beautiful areas. At the beginning of the year I’d have penciled this as a loss but it seems like Beamer is off to a disappointing start, so I think it’s a 50/50 game.
This is a game of trends. We shall see whose team breaks theirs. Or at least does not conform as much to theirs as the other team. And then we can all cry (either side): We s__k less! We s__k less!
The best thing about the game this year (other years?) is that fall is here in that part of the south. If nothing, a great way to enjoy God's beauty.
I’ve got a convertible and have done some driving with it in SC, that part of the world is hard to beat in that regard.
Our scouting report: We haven't figured out how to play on the road. Any other consideration ,stat etc., has to be seen through that lens. I hope we show up up with intensity and enthusiasm. If we do, we have the players to take advantage of some of the issues described by OP.
Last year a USCe fan guaranteed a win, he then vanished, wonder if he will come back with more easy bets
To paraphrase (respectfully): 1. We have no O-Line. 2. Our QB is erratic. 3. We have no true RBs. 4. We have no WRS. 5. We have no D-Line. AGAIN . . .
@GoCocks3877 is a decent, friendly rival and doesn't disappear like that last guy. He was from the West Coast I think. Edit: Yeah, here he is . . . calling @CockyInSeattle No need to re-post all he said. LOL!
Atleast 100 members of my family are SCe grads. I cheer for them except when they play the Gators- My 3 greats Grandfather’s name is on a building on the campus. Been to many a Fl vs SCe games at Williams Brice, and always been treated well
South Carolina is last in the SEC in defending the pass. So you bet we'll run, run, run and then run some more.
