Read one opinion that this was done to throw a wrench into the growing bromance between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

O Jerusalem. While the focus is primarily on Israel's 1948 war of independence it provides against some very good historic background. I read the print version in 1973. It's history that reads like a novel. Below is a link to a download.

Slightly off topic but if anyone is pissed off at Iran are they equally mad at GWB for invading and decapitating the govt of Iraq in which we were instrumental in killing hundreds of thousands of civilians many of them Shite?

Then we let Israel handle its own business. For as long and to the extent Israel feels is necessary. But American planes stay on the ground.

Good lord. No. Take some Xanax. But this does point out the dangers of unilateral nuclear armament in the region. And it is right to have suspicions about this attack given Bibi’s leadership.

Yeah, man. But only after I get over my seething anger at Woodrow Wilson for getting us involved in WW1. And even that takes a backseat to the outrage I feel at Pope Urban II for calling down the First Crusade. I spend the first few hours of every day being pissed about ancient history. It’s only around 1:00PM every day that I can turn my attention to what’s going on right this moment.

That a lot of rage. I mange to limit mine to 2 minutes of hate a day. Today I’m rotating Bibi in even as I mourn innocent civilians who were killed.

America’s leading warmonger, Nikki Haley, tells Netanyahu “Finish them.” Weren’t we supposed to finish the Russians ?

That is the only good thing to come out of this, but not plausible this had been in planning for a long time.

Double checked through Wiki. Urban II (the Pope, not our former coach), generally credited on the First Crusade. Otherwise, typically solid. I'm going to go back through the thread I've been wondering about your opinions on this

Just out of curiosity, which one of my bullet points do you not agree with?

Very tragic for Israel and civilian Palestinians. Hamas has a losing hand, so the endgame is likely to incite a regional war or generate opportunities for martyrdom. Death, basically.

This is very sad. Hope that both sides can see there is no winner, only death and destruction.

Land splits, borders, and homogeneous religious and ideological concentrations cause wars. Best to force people to live together and work out their differences through compromise.

If there are any of them in the US the chances are that they entered legally and overstayed their visas like a number of the 9/11 terrorists or that they are susceptible Americans who have been converted through propaganda like this woman.

It's still shocking to me that Hamas pulled this off. On so many levels. Drones taking out Merkavas with seeming ease? Would have never thought possible

Not a chance in the world Netanyahu wanted this to happen. This could bring down his government. A lot of recriminations, which are not unusual in the aftermath of an intelligence failure and which have to be sorted out, that forces in the South were deficient because he had diverted so much to the territories in the West Bank, and that his government's focus on annexation and ethnic cleansing left them vulnerable. Also jeopardizes Saudi Arabia normalization.. Again, not a chance he wanted this.
