We didn't seize those funds last time because there was no legal basis to do so. South Korea didn't willingly retain the money, they did so because they didn't want to piss us off and they held those funds (illegally) to their significant detriment.

Apology if this has already been posted, it looks more like this attack may be related to an emerging agreement between Israel and SA, brokered by the US, for SA to diplomatically recognize Israel and normalize relations. This would put pressure on other Arab states to do the same. A series of agreements like this would likely halt hostilities that date back to 1948. For states that like rely on terror and chaos to retain power, this is a threat. I hope it doesn't derail the talks as this is a significant step towards prosperity and stabilization for the entire region.

The significance of why Hamas chose to attack Israel now

I have some travel this week and am interested in any recommendations for Audible books on the history of Israel, Palestine, Hamas, the role of Iran, in the conflicts, etc. Thanks.

Ah. Did you miss the part where Hamas has killed and is holding Americans? We are the “they,” unless this is your position about Jewish Americans abroad …

Hamas is gonna get it good. Reading reports about them mowing down folks at a music festival and then parading some dead girls naked body around. Israel is about to kill a LOT of Palestinians.

Your post aligns with mine except for one point of contention. SK willingly withheld the money. It was a choice they may not have liked but they weighed the positives and negatives and decided to hold the money.

Often they’re their own worst enemy. So get this, it was a music festival for peace in which the attendees largely supported Palestine.

We don’t need to be on the ground there have ample resources (4B in military aid alone) plus $22B in “prepositioned military material”. Seriously WTF? Israel has intelligence we can’t touch in the area and lots of blood lust. We don’t need to be involved and can’t offer meaning help they don’t already have.

No more American military presence than we already have. At the end of this cut aid to both them and Egypt no one has enumerated what if anything we’re giving to the Palestinians but I’m ope; to cutting that as well. We must seriously dial back our engagement with the increasingly fascist state of Israel. Talking about the govt not the people.

Edit also put Israel on a long term travel advisory. You don’t see me traveling to Yemen…

When a "sneak" attack like this happens, one must question "who benefits?"

Bibi benefits in the long-term because this attack gives him the green-light to slaughter Palestinians with impunity and to seize the Gaza.

Bibi also benefits because it will bring a fractured Israel together.

Bibi benefits because he may finally get the go-ahead to attack Iran.

This puts Biden in a precarious political position.

Folks, I fear this may possibly be the start of WW3 and/or Armageddon.
    Sincerely hope I'm wrong.
