Are you serious? Can we give Israel a day or two before the conspiracy theories start?

Look, I know that post came off as 9/11 Truther-ish. I’m not trying to create conspiracy theories.

Coincidentally, I’ve seen some were comparing this to 9/11 or calling it Israel’s 9/11. In actuality this was a far broader and more coordinated attack. 1000+ militants believed involved. This is a disaster of Israel intelligence that will need to be explained poste-haste. Especially considering they are probably about to respond to Israeli deaths by killing a bunch of civilians, perhaps in asymmetrical numbers.

CNNs Jake tapper interviewing woman who had 2 kids taken by Hamas. Saw video of an Israelis woman 50s being taken. Now why does Hamas want these people? . Hostages. Human shields. Prisoner swap? Check check and check. This is going to be a nasty fight with Iran fought by proxy. How can Israel hold Iran accountable without striking them directly. We will see

If people aren’t trying to tie the $6B of Iranian money to this attack why is it even discussed in this thread? It didn’t precipitate the attack and it wasn’t spent on this attack. Hamas’ plan was clearly carefully orchestrated for many months in advance, at minimum, so it wasn’t the funding genesis of the idea nor an expectation when planning the attack.

Yes, Iran could use the $6B for weapons by allocating other funds for weapons (best aspect of money is its fungibility), but I think that misses the point. Iran has plenty of money and already funds terrorists to the tune of $1B per year. It’s not a game changer as it represents 10% of one year’s expenditures for Iran.

We don’t need to invent domestic failures to explain foreign politics.

Typical leftist straw man. I don't see anybody saying the $6 billion directly funded this attack and without it, Hamas would not have been able to make it happen. The point being made is we just gifted these people $6 billion and this is how they repay us. Let me explain it to you in a manner in which may help you understand. Would you gift someone $10 million who a few years ago actually held your wife and kids hostage at gunpoint? I sure hope you wouldn't, but let's say you were dumb enough to do that. And then a few weeks after your gift, the same guy broke into your best friend's house and held his wife and kids hostage at gunpoint. Do you think your best friend would question the $10 million gift you gave the assailant a few weeks earlier or would he just let it slide? Obviously, your gift wasn't the difference maker, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say your best friend would be your ex-best friend if that situation unfolded. In fact, he'd likely unfriend you upon learning about the gift in the first place. That's how tragically stupid Joe Biden is.

We didn’t “gift” Iran $6B. It was always their money and it was part of an exchange. See, you can’t gift someone what is theirs and you can’t call negotiated consideration in an exchange a gift.

And as for your false contention that no one is claiming it, see post #40 in this thread. As for your analogy it was ill-conceived and vapid. I’m sure Israel will “unfriend” us any hour now, right?

Dumb. The $6 billion was most definitely a gift, because it didn’t have to be given to Iran. Those assets were seized and frozen when Iran broke international law. Governments seize bank accounts of criminals all the time. If said bank accounts were handed back to said criminals, it would most definitely be a gift as the government never needed to hand those funds back.

Now that we have Reality 101 lesson 1 out of the way, I have reviewed post #40 and I would be remiss to say gifting Iran $6 billion didn’t give Hamas more liquidity and flexibility to launch this attack. As to the scope of the attack, they could have easily scaled that within a few days. As the poster rightly pointed out, it doesn’t take that long to deploy rocket systems.

So while it’s plausible and likely the attack had been in the works long before the gift, the attack could have been planned in anticipation of said gift and/or given Hamas the necessary liquidity to expend resources needed to carry out such an attack they didn’t have before the gift was given to Iran, their headmasters.

This is just sad. Those evil f*cks in Hamas are going to get a lot of innocent Palestinians killed. And people will say it was justified.

Lots of innocent lives were lost today due to Hamas, sadly when Israel attacks back to protect its citizens from those animals lots of innocent Palestinians will also be killed. And people will say it was unjustified.
It's time for Israel to end this.

True, but the U.S. isn’t manning their “border” either. I would anticipate Israel has many times more intel sources on the ground in the Gaza Strip than the U.S., if the U.S. operates there at all. I doubt the U.S. is advising them on “border security”, let’s just say that.

Israel built this high tech fortress like wall isolating Gaza and has a sophisticated intel apparatus trained on this specific population, including IDF agents working with Hamas (typically just paying $$$ for intel leads). With 1000 militants (pretty damned large operation) they didn’t detect… anything???
