Some Republicans are considering impeaching Janet Protasiewicz, here's how we got here

The government has a lot more power to regulate the speech of the people working for it when they're on the job than when they're not. And the restrictions on political campaigning would not just reach government employees, it would also reach people who are private citizens. In 2002, Justice Scalia, writing for SCOTUS, struck down a canon of judicial ethics in Minnesota that prohibited judicial candidates from announcing their views on disputed political or legal issues while campaigning:

Madison or Milwaukee?? Now I have to wonder why in the universe you would start there?

How can you support judge and jury shopping yet criticize gerrymandering? I think we all know the answer but please humor us with your answer. I love a good contortion act on a Saturday morning before going to Gainesville!!!

 

Are you even remotely serious? Racial gerrymandering has one goal...to deny black people the representation they are legally entitled to. (Some of our posters may not find that particularly offensive.) Ask Trump why he judge shops...the answer won't be based on racial considerations.

The former is illegal, the later is not. To compare the two is ludicrous....and telling.

Because judges have political biases. And if I'm trying to unwind a gerrymander that is effectively denying the people of Wisconsin popular representation, I'm not going to judges who benefit from that system. My goal is justice. Feel free to whine about forum-shopping, but the reality is that any good attorney is doing it. Hell, I learned the ins and outs of forum-shopping while I was working for the Republicans lol.

 

While I don’t like the politicization of the judiciary, it is what it is, and the position is elected. All of the judges have clear biases and are often fairly predictable. I’m not sure why this particular issue warrants impeachment.

 

That's just plain out wrong, whether you like her world view or not, but that's where the GOP is today. It's frightening, actually.

 

Name a time in the last 50 years when democrats tried to impeach a newly elected judge,much less for a legitimate reason.

It's not politics is a dirty game. It's republicans acting way, way outside the bounds of politics, a simple definition of which even you can understand:

"Politics is the way that people living in groups make planned decisions. Politics is about making agreements between people so that they can live together in groups ...."

"groups" NOT in a group!
