I got to see both Bob Hope & Rodney Dangerfield at GG back in the day.

    Anbody going?

Word on the street is that they got Pizzle biddy and Slim Jammy for the hype session. Headliner is Diz Rizzy.

Hasn’t been at the stadium in several years. Another almost gone tradition.

Gator Growl never recovered after Dane Cook. Hard to believe that was almost 20 years ago.

Jason DeRulo is the headliner for a concert. At the O’Dome inside now. For a few years it was outside on a field across the street from Hume Hall. Weather hurt ticket sales some years. Less people attending meant a smaller budget for entertainment. I remember Jerry Seinfeld and Steven Wright appearing together one year. Lot of great comics back in the day. That was when they were selling out the Stadium. Something happened where they were no longer allowed to use the stadium for the event. Perhaps field damage or not enough time to clean stadium? Remember one year it was like 40 degrees for Growl back in 80s

Dane Cook was considered too vulgar for what was marketed as a family event. They started bringing in family-friendly acts or at least asking comedians to keep their bits clean and attendance started to dwindle. That trend has continued from what I understand.

The next year was Wayne Brady and the following year was Jim Gaffigan. I guess people like Gaffigan's Hot Pocket bit but I remember sitting in the 06 Growl thinking "yeah, this is not for me."

I know many weren't happy after Robin Williams.

Were they prohibited from using the stadium? I thought they moved it because people stopped coming and wasn’t worth having it there

I think it was Muschamp who complained Growl tore up the field.

The year I went the student body overwhelmingly voted for Eddie Murphy and got overruled. Too vulgar, they said. We got Bill Cosby, who we booed heartily and cheered orange/blue during his act, which was pretty much taken from “Bill Cosby: Himself” word for word. In light of what we have learned in the years since I feel really good about booing him off stage.

The last one I went to was the year the music was SugarRay. Growl was great, and when they did the fireworks the smoke got so dense you couldn't see a thing, and I mean literally couldn't see a thing. Does anyone remember the year?

And then.... Bob Hope the next year. He got booed off the stage. Harsh. :p

I remember Helen Reddy getting booed like that. Bob Hope got booed the last time he was there, because he was filming it for TV and wanted to do retakes. Students didn't go for that. Paula Poundstone got booed during her standup and lost her composure. 70,000 booing doesn't make it easy like being able to respond to a heckler in a club.

LOL, I was on the fireworks crew back then, the blue key liaison said they caught a ton of heat for Robin...so we got bob then I think the smothers bros. The crowd when the smothers bros came out with the tastes great, less filling chants. :emoji_joy:
