    I think SOS likes Napier, and he is sending kind opinions and well constructed criticism to his new friend, Napier. I saw nothing mean spirited about how SOS formulated his statements towards what he thinks would help Napier's offense.

    Too me it looked like he over threw the receiver as if he had practiced passing to a faster receiver, and not the one in the game at the time. Wilson is much faster than most of the other receivers. Or maybe he was just off and overly excited. I think he might need to let the adrenalin run it's course and wait till he's settled into the game more to make those attempts... or toss the deep ball to Wilson.

    Maybe but he has just struggled with deep ball placement altogether. Even his lone long pass was short and limited the result of the play. I forget which game.

    It's ironic comparing AR to Mertz last last year to this year respectively. AR was accurate on the long ball, but struggled with the short and intermediate passes. Where as Mertz is struggling with the long ball, but is deadly accurate with the short and intermediate passes.

    I would love the best of both worlds in a QB1. But I am not writing off Mertz and the long ball. There is way more football to be played before we get into that conversation.

    It doesn't even have to be long balls though. Intermeidate routes or routes stressing the defense would be an improvement.

    Not sure why but maybe they are working on it. If so they need to figure out which receiver gives Mertz a more consistent route to toss the long ball... meaning the receiver has just as much to do with it as Mertz does. Some QBs need that consistency first just to gain the confidence in their own ability to get the long ball to any of his receivers.

    Just guessing... but it all comes down to more practice.

    Billy is old school and his offense is antiquated. He's a "rush opens up the play action pass" guy...

    Spurrier is a "pass opens up the run game" guy..

    Billy is methodical
    Spurrier is a killer

    I'll take the fun n gun over three runs and done every day and twice on Saturday.

    Someone maybe needs to hear the real "Scared money don't make money" from a successful legendary coach that actually practiced what they preached, who don't use their words just as coach speak.

    There have been moments in every game this year... but yeah, some times he's running for his life because our often injured O-line has broken their assignment on the line.

    A healthy O-line would be a great thing... healthy receivers would be nice too.

    Many of those times happen on obvious passing downs. When 10 or more yards are needed and it’s second or third down we’re in trouble. I agree with someone who said I doubt we practice much on medium and long passes. He’s more of a down and distance guy

    Clearly they didn’t watch him actually coach in the Sunbelt, I did and after I woke up I predicted the kind of offensive woes we see every Saturday. Or perhaps (I suspect) Spurrier is parroting the party line here. Compare his effusive praise for Deion Sanders (ugh) with what he said about Napier, whom he said is doing a “pretty good job”, which isn’t exactly a resounding stamp of approval. If I had to guess I’d imagine in private his opinion is quite different.
