We've already had 2 straight elections with terrible candidates. Looking squarely at a 3rd one coming as well.

Okay, so you see no valid comparison between Hitler's rise to dictatorship in Germany in the 1930s and the possible if not probable rise to power of a wannabe dictator (with the support of "neo"-Nazis among others) in America in the 2020s. I may be "out of line" to see it, but I'm not willfully blind to comparisons.

I'm sure that Trump's possible rise to dictatorship can be compared to the rise of many dictators of the past (again, I'm no historian), but it's Germany in the 1930s that comes readily to mind. Out of line or not.

Zero valid comparison. Plenty of other dictators if you want to make a comparison.

Yes, plenty of others, as I've already noted. Pardon me if I don't take the time to research them. The only dictator I'm worried about is the one who might get elected in America in 2024, as absolutely incredible as it seems, to finish what he started working on before being forced to take four years off.

Again, not sure why this is so hard for you to grasp. In no way is trump anything like Hitlers rise in Nazi Germany. You are comparing literally one of the worst people to walk the earth with a person who’s an A-hole and an all around bad person. Literally a terrible analogy. Do a little more work next time and don’t take the lazy comparison.

More work on what? I compared the rise of a dictator to the rise of a dictator. That's all. I'm not going to sit down to study the history of dictators to satisfy you or anyone else. No further replies from me.

Thus far it’s a valid comparison. Hitler didn’t become truly terrible until after he became a dictator. Plenty of similarities in their paths thus far though.

The comparison is related to a pertinent question. Why did the German people let Hitler happen? I'm not up on the history, but many Germans fled the country. And the question now is, why in the hell are the American people letting Trump happen? More indictments, more votes! Boy, that makes sense, don't it?

Trump is incompetent, corrupt, enemy of democracy, whatever you want to call him. But comparing him to Hitler cheapens what Hitler did, and the men who stormed the beaches to stop him.

According to Trump, those men who stormed the beaches were suckers and losers. As Trump asked Kelly about our war dead, "What was in it for them?"

hence my “thus far” qualifier. Late 1930s Hitler and Trump to this point is a valid comparison.

You can make the comparison up to 1938 and krystallnact between Hitler's rise to power and Trump's rise to power. But after 1938, the comparison isn't fair to the 12 million people, including the 6 million Jews who died during the Holocaust. That's unless Trump rises to power and does truly horrific things, which even I don't think Trump is capable of.

And while there are other dictators out there to compare Trump to, how many came to power by legal, free and fair means like Hitler did? Not many. Most take power through some sort of coup, and if there are elections later on, they are scams. Napoleon, for example, came to power in this way. If anyone has a better historical rise to power, please post it.

Well, as I've said, I'm not really up on the history of how something like Hitler came to power. I suppose it's not fair to ask why the German people let it happen if it was strictly by "legal, free and fair means." No insurrection, fake electors, etc. So in that sense, I have to admit it is not a good comparison.

There are definitely some apt comparisons to Trump and Hitler pre-1938. But it's what Hitler did post 1938 that make the comparisons difficult to stomach. But to answer the question, why did the Germans allow Hitler to gain power post WWI? Because times were tough, and Hitler offered both scapegoats and solutions, and gained a huge, cult-of-personality following among the citizens. Trump used a very similar playbook back in 2016.

As for the insurrection, fake electors stuff, had that been successful, then we'd truly have a dictator. Because many dictators do rise to power legally, and then hold on to power by any way possible, often holding sham elections with pre-determined outcomes. Trump legally lost a free and fair election in 2020, and democracy eventually won out over Facism. If Trump wins in 2024? Who knows.

Then eventually to be in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations: "I am your retribution." I'm sure there will be Americans leaving the country. General Milley probably among them if he's not arrested first.

Only a charlatan would claim a comparison has to be 100% accurate or it has no merit at all! What a grifter!
