I was stymied, as many of us were, by the performance in Lexington, this totally makes sense as to what went wrong.
The worst part is the passing game. Route design and choice are terrible. Everything is a hitch or a drag. Everyone knows that 80% of Ricky’s jet sweeps are decoys therefore he is ignored. I can’t see better WRs helping us if these are the assignments we give them.
The worst part? The worst part was the inability to tackle KY's RB. We didn't lose because of the passing game.
The worst part was the effort. Losing to Kentucky is one thing. Getting POUNDED by them where the team looks like they don't want to be there~ unacceptable.
The snap that hits Ricky in the leg as he runs by is coming. We might as well all mentally prepare for that now.
Absolutely, especially when the running back is running thru our defense like it was the French Army in WWII.
The fake jet sweep needs to be stricken from our playbook. It looks like middle school and is utterly ineffective and a drive killer. Maybe it works in lower tier college football but not when 1. You know it’s coming and 2. You keep your assignment on defense and 3. Your team speed will snuff it out anyway. I abhor the call and by now, so should our coaches. We should be getting away from stealth maneuvers and start playing smash mouth.
From what I decifered, he lines up in the end at a predisposed alignment and it gives the qb some info presnap but that’s probably useless information for
The absolute dumbest thing about the fake jet sweep or related motion is that we are running it with RICKY the vast majority of the time .. We are literally using our best wide receiver as a run game decoy what seems like WAY TOO MUCH of the time …
Well yes, but one team was still asleep, while the other looked like it's hair was on fire and was playing its hated enemy. I said pre-game Uk treated us like their Super bowl, while we treated them like a middling SEC game. I was accused of living in last year, etc. Yet watch Stoops- watch the UK DL and OL. Wow. Such intensity. They hate us such intensity. Now watch our OL. And our LB. Our tackling. We were clearly half asleep. (Or maybe fully asleep?)
We never woke up. First time they ran the ball should've been a two yard loss. Instead it was a twelve yard gain, and that didn't even wake up the defense.
