How often do you go watch HS games that don't involve your own children?

    Pervert..... just kidding!

Interesting. The school you graduated from or just your local HS?
I ask because I haven't been to a HS game since HS some 30+ years ago.
I live a mile away from Plant HS in Tampa for 20 yrs and I haven't even thought of going to a game.

I see most of the NIL money coming from things like local sporting goods stores and radio advertising for local businesses during game broadcasts.

UF is not a leader. We allowed the program to be dismantled while the sports world advanced in regard to recruiting & facilities. They seem to have realized the negative impact that had on the overall UF brand. UF has picked out an approach & both of those areas are turning around. Pressure should've been put on the admin to advance & innovate 10-15 years ago.

I use to go to a local high school football games probably 7-8 times a year, and none of my kids were competing nor performing. I grew up here and enjoyed seeing the players develop from year to year.

I'll never forget the first time I stood near the endzone during warmups and listened to Dante Culpepper warming up as the ball zipped past my head. I've never heard that same sound since.

Or the night I traveled to Daytona to watch some young junior play basketball named Vince Carter. That night I saw the best 3 dunks I have ever seen all in the first half.

I'll never forget the night some little known running back came to town named Emmitt Smith for a playoff game and the home crowd stood and cheered for their defense the first time Emmitt did not run for more than 10 yards and kept him from getting a first down. The defense held him to an 8 yard carry.

Or the time I went to a local basketball game and was surprised that I was sitting in front of James Jones as I found my seat. I asked James "Was the catch legit" He replied, "You know it was."

But now that the rules have changed and players don't play for their school or the love of the game, I've moved on.

They lost their way for sure. Resting on your laurels like your somebody is kind of offensive to most folks

Good point. If a high school quarterback gets paid by a local car dealership to be in a local tv commercial, is that illegal currently? I don’t think so. That’s small potatoes to the dollar amounts getting thrown around to recruit talent but still

And I guess the only thing stopping everyone from basically saying it's "pay for play" is that then all the players become "employees".

Yes that would be illegal as of now in Fl until this new act passes.

The car dealership could hire the player to wash cars or as a salesman but not as a spokesperson using their notoriety for promotion.

Just a side note, I ran track against Montverde Academy and our team dusted them regularly. What team you ask. MDCA (MDB when I attended). Back to your point, I agree whole heartedly.

And since the court said it can’t be capped, I doubt there’s anything that can be stopped until the court says otherwise.

It’s pretty strange to think of our government deciding our job descriptions. I mean we do have laws but isn’t it suppose to be a free market of sorts and the less interference the better. I mean, don’t let football get in the way of how this country is suppose to govern.

You sure? A business in Florida can’t pay a local high school kid as a paid actor in a commercial?

Well if the business makes no mention of the kids name or that he/she is an athlete and doesn't wear specific colors of the school they play for, it could be legal.
What I know is no HS athlete in FL right now can be compensated for their NIL.

    Absolutely nailed it Gator Brother.
Corruption wearing a nice legalistic suit.

It will all get worse and worse and worse.
The scumbags at places like Bama and Auburn will always find ways to cheat the system. They always do.

Why even make them take high school classes... oh wait, that's a college thing.

The NFL and their networks are doing double duty trying to take "student" out of the "student athlete."
