What are the odds for anyone who works for or follows Trump ends up indicted, broke and left with a reputation in shambles?

Probably getting lower and lower by the day, because if Trump wins, he will pardon everybody who was loyal to him.

Actually trump rallies will indeed be smaller and increasingly in front of court houses as he "mingles" with his lawyers, attacks judges and trashes witnesses/former employees who are typically Rs.

Well I wouldn’t call any of these people idiots either. I think the power of markets goes against many of our core intuitions.

I definitely agree that it is an amazing state of affairs that Trump at this point has any kind of a real shot of being president. I expect the line will likely swing back away from him, but 1) I don’t have the money for such a prediction, and 2) I have almost no faith in my own personal powers of prognostication. It will be an interesting 13 months.

Know that he only has a “real shot” of being president again because the current administration is doing a really horrible job at running the country. If you lose to a guy who had 91 felony counts pending at once, the problem is probably staring back at you in the mirror.

And this is not necessarily directed at you, but don’t blame the American people. Biden sucks and even a guy like Trump seems a more malleable solution than what we have right now.

I think once people get over the fact Biden is going to be the D candidate, they will look at the reality of voting in a criminal with zero platform to make the country better, vs an 80-something incumbent who has brought infrastructure, strengthened NATO and negotiated other global alliances such as with Japan and S. Korea to thwart China in Asia and increase our economic footprint. And manage a better economy than any other developed nation. While working in a bipartisan way to get things done in a narrowly divided house and senate. No brainer.

Challengers often poll a little higher this far out versus an incumbent for POTUS. The challengers are fully on the campaign trail and getting full campaign coverage. The incumbent has barely started.

If Trump is the R nominee, Biden will have plenty of time to hammer his issues. Let's see where the polls are after the conventions are complete. Will have va much better sense then.

maybe they thought the country was better off with them doing what they could to control the idiot rather than allowing sycophants who would feed into his ego to be put into positions of authority.

the fear is that so many will be apathetic and stay home and the rabid maga base will generate enough votes to pull off a victory

I get what you are saying. The environment has to matter. Though, to be fair, Trump isn’t even yet the Republican nominee, so I don’t think we can lay this at the feet of Biden. There are plenty of other Republican options for conservatives. And even if there weren’t and Biden were completely unacceptable, people could always just vote third party. If we feel forced to vote R or D always based on the alternative options, I’d say that is probably a problem with us.

I don't see how he's done a terrible job at all. I do think that people seem to think things are worse than they actually are. Combine that with the constant coverage of Biden's age and gaffes and the fact that he's so personally so uninspiring.
It is a shame that the Democrats don't have an alternative.

I go back to the eye test. Ask yourself how many of your friends will vote for Trump in the primaries. And ask your friends how many of their friends will vote for Trump in the primaries. The answer is very small. And so, where is this gigantic lead in the polls coming from?

I think for some of them, it was a combination of respect for the office (I recall a specific West Wing episode that focuses on that idea of "I serve at the pleasure of the President.") Especially for military men, the respect for hierarchy means that most will probably always accept a request to serve for the President, regardless of how loathsome they may find the person in the office.

Secondly, I do think for many that either before accepting or soon after, they hoped that they could best serve and protect America by being in Trump's inner circle and steering him away from his worst tendencies. "If it's not me, it may be someone that enables and emboldens him further."

EDIT: Kelly's comments should also serve as irrefutable proof that Trump actually said all those despicable things about our fallen soldiers that were reported in 2020. He would have been present and around Trump to hear most of them firsthand. And even if not, he was personally around Trump to hear enough similar garbage to have zero trouble believing the comments that he didn't directly hear.
