There just aren’t enough quality coaches out there, so they have all the leverage and can dictate that, especially when the one hiring is a large program who is desperate Maybe there is some genius assistant or grad assistant out there that can be had for cheap initially, who is a future Mike McDaniel, but no one knows about him. It started early this year with Utah. With the game on the line, it took us 4 minutes to march 33 yards.
Many probably need to temper their lofty expectations, imho. Florida will never be a football factory again, just not gonna happen. Way too many obstacles and limitations in the way now. Getting to a tier 2 SEC program level is the likely ceiling. When Billy came in my hope was he would develop UF into the ‘Boise State’ of the SEC, see Chris Peterson. Be a very creative innovative offensive team with a solid defense that no one wanted to play. Win the games you’re supposed to win and knock off the all in factory teams here & there. Create a fun to play in solid program that is an easy sell to recruits. If I’m honest, I do see a few things in Billy that are a bit concerning now. Maybe it’s the frustration and pressure he’s under. That beat down at the hands of mighty Kentucky was not part of the deal though. That can’t happen again. I firmly believe Billy will make some much needed adjustments, all in good time, still think he’s the guy too. He’s not going to be Nick or Kirby though, imho.

My friend, I hear what you're saying, but don't get near the pit of despair. If Georgia can do it, why can't we? Yes, I get that the game has changed and we need to adapt to it, and also get that the talent level at Florida is by no means a secret, but I seriously doubt Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M or us would ever just throw in the towel and accept being mid-tier. Charley Pell showed that Florida COULD consistently win, and both SOS and Meyer showed we could reach the highest levels. Be of good cheer! These things run in cycles. We just need to put the right pieces in place, and thus far, this has been elusive, at least since 2010.
Lagway could probably run it though. Mertz has his limitations and Lagway may fit a lot better. My thoughts are that if the oline can give you third and short instead of third and long, it’s a whole different world. Tgat said, any great coach has to bend to make things work. S0S may not have liked feeding Taylor the ball at times but realized that’s what it takes to win. Same for Satan, can’t just Henry the ball and win the title every year.
Into a functioning line. I’m yet to see the allstar misfits just come together and win. It’s a unit that needs cohesion. Sure, bring in one or two guys into an eight man unit that has been around each other 3-5 years and it’ll work.
So, here’s my thoughts. Man I want Napier to succeed. I want it bad. But I must also be honest with myself about what I’ve seen thus far. My son and I were at the Utah game. You could tell immediately we were in trouble. Things you don’t see on TV. Guys looking confused. Players running in late. Players running off late. Defensive guys looking to the sidelines and out of position when the ball was snapped. And Utah wasn’t even really running a hurry up offense. We had 8 guys on a FG attempt late in the game. 8. I’ve never seen that before. The reality is, we have now shown that we are a poorly coached and poorly prepared football team. We’ve played 1 good half of football in 5 games. Our offense is pedestrian. Ridiculously predictable. It’s embarrassing. We’re paying this dude and his staff entirely too much money fit these results. Im not mad at the losses. I’m mad at the fact that we are seeing no real improvement. We look lethargic and lost most of the game. No energy. I could tell pregame that we were in trouble against UK. They looked hungry. Excited. We looked flat. That’s coaching. I know we’ve beat this dead horse but I’m fearful that the message isn’t getting through. Napier will hopefully give in and accept that his plan isn’t working. Let the offense be run by a legitimate OC. Get a damn ST coach to eliminate the repeated dumb mistakes. But I’m not certain he will. I don’t want him to be forced to do it either. The right guy would realize he must do it and would be eagerly trying to solve the issue. But I don’t think that’s this coach sadly. I think we have another stubborn guy who will go down in flames before admitting his way isn’t getting it done. I’m fearful we have Muschamp all over in this regard. Please Billy, prove me wrong. I want to be wrong.

That is the crux of the matter, isn't it? In spite of any headwinds, how committed is the admin to fielding a team that competes on a regular basis with the bamas, ugas, and other factory programs? If the decision has been made to settle for being a tier 2 sec program ( 7-10 wins a year, an occasional appearance in the 12 team playoff) that would definitely result in expectations being adjusted downward at a place that has history of winning hardware and competing at the highest level. I hope that is not the case, but we shall see.
Maybe I'm wrong for assuming others feel this way but I'm guessing the more supportive but increasingly concerned critics share the opinion in the last tweet. At least I do anyway. Wholesale changes or abandoning a method for some magical insta fix isn't plausible or necessary. The concern is that he's so rigid or worse yet maybe not capable of installing modifications for the current personnel or deficiencies in execution. Im not sure a rebuild has to be a long process that the fans "won't like" In this day and age. There is a lot of middle ground in between expecting instant championships and accepting throw away years. Kids have 3 to 4 years to play. 3 if they are really good. I dont think you ever accept growing pains. You know they happen but you strive to win games at all cost. 2005 was looking like a wasted year but Meyer made just enough tweaks with what we had to beat Georgia and fsu and salvage a pretty good year out of it.

I share the same feeling, and your recollection of what your own eyes saw live is just one more thing that reaffirms it. Look at our last three coaches and what they are doing now. It proves that they had no business running UF’s football program. Mullen was probably borderline. I am certain that the same fate awaits Napier. I have no explanation why we seem to attract these types
