Frustrating season. Many fans want us to hire an offensive coordinator. Many fans want us to hire a special teams coach. Guess what? You don’t hire them in the middle of the season. If you could find one, well, the good ones already are working. Players making mistakes? Well, they’re young. There’s a saying: Good judgement comes from experience…Experience comes from bad judgment. We’re just going to have to live with it. Then, see what happens after the season.
Who needs coaches? I'd put ChatGPT up against most of the Power 5 coaches and probably do quite well.
I hope nobody is having trouble living because of a game. I spent Saturday with my grandchildren at a party-that's living.
This season is going to be another disappointment. The questions is will it be followed by another disappointment with the same coach or a new coach, who needs another 2 years to prove he's average at best so we can continue this mind-numbing cycle! Sorry I'm a little bitter after a decade and a half of mediocrity.
Coaching and offensive scheme are major issues. Running up the middle into a stacked box on 3rd and 4th down. Running pass routes with 2 receivers in the same area. Some have said this before but this sounds like the Muschamp years all over again. Nothing is wrong with the offensive scheme, it is all due to players not executing. When your scheme is predictable and requires perfect execution into tight windows, that is more a scheme issue than a player issue.
Grantham used same excuse as well. If your scheme requires perfection it is a poor scheme, especially for college.
Some coaches are better than others. Like players, some coaches can out coach the others Smarter, better knowledge, greater experience, …. Some coaches can’t adapt and must have players conform to the coaches system and others can adapt to players strengths. Some allow friendship to get in the way of business decisions and others quickly make needed changes.
Right now, it's hard not to get caught up in all the negativity. What is lacking? Discipline and execution. Kentucky didn't respect us at all. And, we proved to them we don't deserve respect. It hurts me to say that, but how we showed up speaks volumes. They are the better team by a long shot; right now, anyway. As mentioned in many articles: they beat us at our own game. Handily. A few critical realities: We are a young team. (check the roster for details) We lack discipline We completely suck away from the Swamp We need a special teams coach. Two offensive line guys are not working. We have the most ridiculously difficult schedule (newsflash) it gets worse next year. Now everyone is pissing and moaning about an OC. While it would be nice to have a creative mind pushing this effort forward, I still believe if you fix the list above (sans the schedule) you could execute better and get better results. We play Vandy at home next week. Then we're off on another road game to SCe. Then Georgia. Then Arky at home, LSU away, Missou away and we wrap up with Fla State at home. LSU, SCe and Mizzou should be winnable games for us. Toss in Vandy at home as well. But if we can't leave the state without imploading...Huston, we have a problemo. We need to get at least two of the three out of town games in the win column. Man, we really need to beat Vandy. Go Gators.
Almost every point except the first and last fall on coaching. not so sure we can beat lsu. Carolina and Mizzu on the road so those will be tough too.
I'm in the camp of give it a try. You can't go out and get an OC mid-season but you sure as hell can relinquish play calling duties from within right now. Plenty of coaches have done that. Give him a shot at OC/playcaller.
Not only that but when you fail to threaten a defense and continue to operate your whole offense within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage sooner or later (sooner lately) the entire defense draws up and makes tipped passes and fumbles pay off for the defense. An offense never should invite turnovers but this offense does.
It is astonishing how on 3rd and long we either run or the WRs run hitch routes that go just beyond the first down marker.
Right now Mizzou will beat us by 3 touchdowns unless something changes. It is an away game, it will be cold, and it will be at 11.
