Duke's head coach is two years into his tenure and they are playing way better ball than us. They are well coached, competitive, and fundamentally sound. Trusting the "process" is starting to get old when what you see on the field from other teams is the exact opposite of what we are doing.

Compare that to ND who goes like 95 yards in 2:00 to win their game, OSu who went like 65 yards in 1:20 the week before.

It’s not working. Last year it was we don’t have the players, this year…..?

Granted the OL isn’t good and we knew that. why does it take two years to beef up the line with the portal?

Didn’t they say in the game that KY had brought in portal linemen to fill some gaps?

they seemed to gel and have a decent line on both sides of the ball. It’s a new era where portal makes a dramatic impact and if your aren’t playing that side well you are at a disadvantage.

Hell they brought the RB from Vandy over, he killed us last year too.

We did a terrible portal job this year. Save Mertz (who’s better than I though) and the guys BN brought with him from ULL his portal work is terrible.

Some may disagree but without Mertz we are 1-4.

But could we have gotten a QB with a higher ceiling than Mertz ?

There was enough stink to cover every unit, as usual including special teams.

My sentiments exactly. Why can’t we look improved while improving? Must we look like the back end of a mule? Plenty of other programs looking competent and motivated during a rebuild.

Maybe but would it make a difference?
OL can barely pass block, we have almost no run game.
ST continues to find new and creative ways to cause game changing errors….

Both Kentucky teams finished 10-3 those years. They were strong SEC teams, not the typical 7-5 Kentucky team under Stoops.

Lots of areas in need of improvement.
Special Teams has been terrible. Too many mistakes.
Surprised that the ground game hasn't been better, we are wasting 2 STUD RB's.

    Some reflective thoughts

    - this game is personal to stoops maybe a hold over from his time in tally and the shadow the streak cast over his program in the beginning. This gives him what 2 rivalries (uf, ut), we have how many? Ut, uga, lsu, fsu, plus we get yuk best? We arent a bama/uga level program that can withstand everyones best shot as a calendar game and havent been since 2009

    - yuk has stability in their coaches and schemes that is big plus it allows them to grind

    - Lots of areas within the team/program wrt to on field performance that are going to cause billy heartburn and night-sweats the next 8 weeks
    - we are playing lots of young physically underdeveloped skill players on both sides of the ball and paying a price for experience (i believe this is the process billy talks about)
    - AA was schooled yesterday by yuks OC and didnt adjust his mentality soon enough
-AA hopefully will be better after once thru the rotation of our opponents to get a feel for them
-we weren't able tackle well outside the los we also displayed lack of awareness/effort at the point of attack
    - ST regardless of overall coordination the attention to individual execution is baffling. Any stiff at the D1 level has the ability to coach individual points of emphasis. there will always be mental breakdowns on the KR and PR due to the movement in the field happens to almost every team but you do break 1 eventually
    - wrt portal players they major are a component of the game in the 2020s both adds and subtracts the problem is you cant “build” a team around wholesale portal turnover yearly it isn’t sustainable. You can supplement the roster with impact players but you need the ‘role’ players developed on the roster
    - our oline needs attention and it will be interesting to see if an OC change coincides with a philosophical change
    - i believe billy knows our inherent deficiencies and his style is to limit blowouts this equals boring football we just arent able compete due to breakdowns on field

There are those who thinks Billy needs to be fired now: 10 things I'm absolutely overreacting to after Week 5 in the SEC

Pitiful effort by the coaches, and staff to prepare for and play this game. I’d like to say something about the players but my parents taught me, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. We are all wanting to point fingers. Billy said he needs to look in the mirror, and I hope he did that all night long last night, and it continues today. Offensive coordinator? Special Teams coach? Halftime adjustments? Fundamental tackling? Playing with fire from the start of the first half?
Would like to see progress from this team, but it’s hard to see. We’ve played one good half of football so far this season against UT. That’s two quarters out of how many? SMH.

UKs starting LT (Cox) was via the portal. The RT (Ford) came from U$C. Not sure if he started but think so.

From the UK side or things, both schools recruited Mertz and Leary. Our OC preferred Leary. Not sure which UF preferred.
