The GOP has other Republicans to choose from though who mostly agree with the same policies, would be at least if not more likely to beat Biden, and who don’t have the fraud, rape, and other moral and legal problems.
Agreed. That seems to be the one example that we have, though it seems to come with qualifications. “Even the rare mea culpa seems to bear an asterisk. In 2016, about a month before the election, when comments Mr. Trump made about grabbing women during an “Access Hollywood” segment surfaced on tape and threatened to destroy his campaign, he quickly apologized in a short video statement. “I’ve never said I’m a perfect person,” his apology began. But by the end of the statement, he had returned to a more familiar message: “Let’s be honest,” Mr. Trump concluded, “we’re living in the real world. This is nothing more than a distraction from the important issues we’re facing today.” The Trump White House Will Not Apologize About John McCain (or Much Else, Really) (Published 2018)
And yet when it comes to Democrats, GOP voters find the same issues at 1/1000000th the scale vitally important.
On the other hand he never apologized for running the full page ad in the NY Times implicitly calling for the execution of the Central Park 5 after they were exonerated for the attack on the jogger or for perpetuating the lies about Obama's birth even after he did admit that Obama was born in the US. Trump Will Not Apologize for Calling for Death Penalty Over Central Park Five (Published 2019)
serious question: why is this an issue? Why is it so important to you and others, that Trump, or anyone else for that matter, apologize? if he apologized, would you suddenly start liking him, or vote for him? My guess is no. I think you and others would be hard-pressed to identify any politician within the last 25 years who hasn’t done something wrong, but has failed to apologize for it. if memory serves me correctly, Obama went around after his election and did a whole apology tour to the entire world. Is that what you’re looking for here? I’m pretty sure Obama was universally mocked for his apology tour by both Republicans and many Democrats. I think it is difficult for world leaders to apologize because it makes them look weak. Chuck Norris never apologized to anyone.
False bravado. Real strong men and women apologize. Even Chuck Norris, who apologized to Bruce Lee for lying about never training with him. At this point, Trump apologizing wouldn't change much, if anything, because nobody would believe him. But he owes the CP5 a huge apology for upending their lives, and helping to put them away for years, even though they were innocent.
how did he help put them away? I’m not familiar with any of his actions as it relates to that crime. I have a very, very vague recollection of the crime itself, but that was a while ago, wasn’t it? by the way, my guess is that Chuck Norris apologized to Bruce Lee because otherwise, he would’ve been nunchucked upside the head…so that doesn’t count.
Trump took out a large ad in several newspapers calling for the death penalty for the CP5. As the Time Story points out, the advertisements turned the kids into monsters in the public's eye, and put them in a no-win situation. Only way out was absolute exonerating evidence, which unfortunately didn't come until decades later.
Interesting. I never read anything about Trump back from 1989. Thank you for posting the link. I just read the complete ad. I fail to see any issue with the ad. He doesn’t identify anyone by name, and what he says in the ad was about as mainstream as you can get for 1989, and frankly, for 2023. If you are not in support of the death penalty, I guess you would have an issue with the ad. You have to keep in mind that New York City was Trump‘s hometown, and having lots of crime was not good for his business, and I’m sure he personally did not like it either. Nobody likes crime. what exactly should Trump apologize for by spending his own money to engage in constitutionally protected activity (speech)? I fail to see any real, tangible evidence that Trump‘s ad in anyway interfered with the prosecution of those five kids. All I see, in the few articles I read on the subject, is pure rank speculation. if anything, I see potential police misconduct, which apparently occurred since the five kids were awarded millions of dollars in damages in the lawsuit filed against the police and the city.
The Obama apology tour is essentially a conservative myth and even more significantly his failure to apologize to five innocent men (teens at the time) for calling for their execution after they have been exonerated is indicative of the complete absence of a moral compass. Conservatives return to the "Obama apology tour" myth: They're mistaking narcissism and belligerence for strength
Trump didn't name anyone, but the 5 kids had already been arrested, and paraded in front of cameras. Trump didn't have to name names. Police, after hours and hours of interrogation, eventually got a confession from the kids. At this point, they were sleep deprived and confused. Then Trump ran the ads, and the vitriol towards the CP5 rose exponentially. NY in 1989 was in transition, after years of major issues including drugs, prostitution, and other crime. But the tide was turning, and NY was slowly making a major comeback. Trump basically turned every New Yorker into a modern lynch mob with their anger aimed at the CP5, who endured death threats on a daily basis. This poisoned the jury well, who if they didn't feel the hate, certainly felt the pressure. And based on only the boy's confession, which wasn't really strong evidence, they convicted. Trump didn't start the fire, but he certainly turned up the heat. And he never apologized, even though Trump was wrong.
Even after they were exonerated, trump would not apologize or admit he was wrong Trump Will Not Apologize for Calling for Death Penalty Over Central Park Five (Published 2019) President Trump said on Tuesday that he would not apologize for his harsh comments in 1989 about the Central Park Five, the five black and Latino men who as teenagers were wrongly convicted of the brutal rape of a jogger in New York City.
I think you need to get a better grasp of reality. Show me where Donald Trump called for their execution after they were exonerated. you just made that up out of thin air. Further, Donald Trump didn’t call for their execution, he called for the execution of all people who are convicted of murder. Once again, you need a better grasp of reality/truth.
you don’t get to blame Trump for the actions of the police. The police arrested the wrong guys. That happens. If you are claiming that Trump’s ad influenced the jury more than a year after the ad posted, show me the evidence. Was the jury interviewed? Is there any evidence the jury even say the ad? Otherwise your conclusion is baseless and based on nothing but speculation.
I never said he called for their execution subsequent to their exoneration. What I did say and it should have been obvious he never apologized for implicitly calling for their execution when they were charged with the crime and failed to apologize once they were exonerated. Besides being incapable of apologizing the clown has absolutely no compassion for the five young men who were demonized, unjustly convicted and were incarcerated for several years for a crime they didn't commit.
