Yikes. There has to be some middle ground between Derrik Chauvin'ing someone and not evening saying "Hey, you have to pay for that." Then again, I completely understand employees with the attitude of, "They don't pay me enough for this ish."
Wow, that's brilliant, why didn't those fat cats think about enforcing the laws we already have. Great solution!
I don't think that's universally fair. There are some good people in elected office IMO just like there are good cops, etc. I think the issue of something like shoplifting is particularly sensitive considering George Floyd was killed after using a fake bill. It's a fair discussion both ways. However, even assuming politicians only care about themselves, crime isn't good for their numbers; I don't think any politician is helped by crime going up.
So you are good with people stealing. We get it. You want socialism. What's great about the US is you are free to go to a place that has socialism. I'm sure we can start you a go fund me for that.
Do you have a plan to stop all theft in the US? If not you are good with people stealing too! Are we not arguing about how much theft is tolerable?
No, you are arguing about how much theft is tolerable. I'm more of a law and order person. You want freebies and people to be able to steal.
So you think all theft can be stopped, even though your only policy offered was simply to enforce laws against theft, which don't actually stop theft, they simply punish people after the fact. Get back to us when you get serious or have a plan to do that. Stop wasting my time!
Yes, that's actually how laws work. Bad decisions should have consequences. Unfortunately some DA's don't prosecute people for theft so then with the consequences gone there is no deterrence to stealing. You think it's ok to steal. You are in the minority. Enjoy that lonely hill. Again, I'm not wasting your time. You are wasting everyone's time by posting gibberish and defending stealing. Good job trolling.
Laws stop/prevent crime? We have more people any prison than anyone in the world, so why is there so much crime? America is very good at punishing crime, yet here you are complaining that crime is out of control. Some people might rethink their world view or at least question those contradictions, you just want more of the same, but do it harder.
Try to stay on the topic of stealing. If you want to start a new thread on why the US has the most people in prison do it. I'll be right over to that thread to talk to you about it. Just wait for me...
I don't care about corporate profits. I care about law and order. No one has a right to someone else stuff. If you just let people act that way, you don't have a civilization. Maybe if we didn't have a full year of defund the police type talking points, police could actually do something. Not that it matters in states like CA. They straight don't even want cops to respond to those calls.
If people need to steal toothpaste or diapers, you don't have a civilization. Sounds like you just want a Potemkin village where you dont see certain things by virtue of maximum state violence. How else do you achieve what you want? And how is that civilized?
It’s a damned if you do damned if you don’t situation. In an environment where any cop becomes violent with noncompliant shoplifters yields bad press, politicians feel pressured to back off. I’m just a guy with an opinion, but I think Democrats are more likely to yield to that kind of pressure than Republicans. Republicans prefer some ugly or unpleasant cases with cops if it means less crime, whereas Democrats prefer to just avoid the ugly or unpleasant cases, even if it means more crime. To your point about politicians who actually care. To the credit of Eric Adams, I think he actually tried putting his money where his mouth is on immigration, but was probably told he can’t do it. I think he favors atrocious policy and he got a bit of a wake up call, but to his credit he tried to eat it first over the people of New York.
