Are there any updates from his visit? Was this his official? Or just swinging by on a Saturday night?

 

He took his official in the beginning of June.

 

Good visit. Liked the offense. Will be back for the FSU game.

What do you know about play calling? Maybe Billy should hire you as a play caller! We won the game!

 

Literally didn’t call him a bad play caller. Based on listening to people more informed than I the major complaint is his route concepts. All I said was he would be fine if he updated them.

 

At OSU Smith would be another player that plays in a system and team of underachievers.. In Gainesville with Lagway, he would be a featured receiver in a system that makes him a superstar.

 

I wonder if they showed a future offense with layaway under center. I can’t imagine that what was shown was enough to sway the #1 reciever in the country to switch from pass heavy OSU.

 

OSU kinda struggling with the pass this year breaking in a new QB…well, not looking dominant as years past.

 

Was it osu that doesn’t have a passing td this year? I’m easily confused and it may be another team I’m thinking of.

 

In recent memory, osu and Ryan day have been a very good passing team

 

quite the orange and blue version of a stretch? Lol. Ohio state has had several first round WRs over the past few years with another projected in this upcoming draft. That is the big draw- going to the nfl - for most of the 5 star studs.


I hope he comes to Uf but if he does, it will be the greatest job of salesmanship in Napiers career. Ohio state wideouts - the top 2-3 each season - generally all catch more passes in a season than the top 1 WR in Napiers system at ULL and UF. Buckeyes may under achieve by annually losing 1 regular season game. But I’m not sure these are the things Napier would be selling to Smith. Lol

would have to sell him on a vision of what could be, of starting his own trend/being his own man/blazing his own path, staying in state, Lagway, etc. it is all based on a vision of what has never been vs a more sure thing in Columbus.

I am a gator homer but that is a hard task.

 

How many Nattys has Day won as the head coach of OSU... with top 2 or top 3 recruiting classes?

 

zero. Is that the bar then for kids choosing a college program?
How many has Napier won? Zero.

Are you suggesting Smith should go to Bama or Georgia or Clemson or A&M or NC? Schools where the head coach has won a National title?

 

Not the same thing...Napier has had no such recruiting classes just yet. So... non-analogy on your part... nice try though.

One more thing, are you a Gator fan or an OSU fan?

OSU recruits close to the top classes every year and yet... they have NOTHING to show for it. It's Napier's turn to land some of the best FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL talent.

Dabo went to a school that hadn’t won shit in forever. It’s not so much the school but the money the school is willing to put into the program. Dion could do it at Colorado if they are truly dedicated.

 

a gator fan. I can’t stand Ohio state. But I can see why a receiver would go to Ohio state. Just because I can recognize achievements or positives at another college doesn’t make me a non gator fan. I don’t have blinders on or wear orange and blue glasses and ignore reality. But like you, I hope Billy can keep talent like Smith in state. That would be huge to be honest.

I think you missed my statement in my first post. I don’t think most players choose a school - including Ohio state - because they think they will win a national title. For most 5 stars, they go where they think they will get developed the most and the best path to the nfl, and preferably a high draft pick. (Excluding any $ or bags of cash as an influence on where to attend). So Day under achieving by not winning titles with great recruiting classes…I don’t think that matters to most players.

no school has put more receivers into the nfl via first round picks over the last few years than Ohio state. That is hard to ignore. It is a hard sell to sell what you hope can be (Billy at Florida getting a WR drafted round 1 and maybe a premier passing offense) vs what has been going on at Ohio state.

If Billy does get Smith to flip to Uf…I don’t think “huge” would be nearly big enough word to describe it.

 

If he comes DJ may deserve a lot of the credit. Their friendship, his potential, and trust he has in Napier.
