This guy has played and coached and I find his analysis a bit more balanced.

I haven't watched this video but let's hear what everyone thinks.

    * * * * *

    Edit: 0:00-6:25 -- Discussing Florida's opening defense.

6:25-18:50 -- Discussing Florida's first drive. Air raid plays? Triple options were available? Not what another film watcher keeps saying.

18:50-21:30 -- Good defense by Florida

21:30-30:15 -- 2nd Level RPO worked great. Then Mertz didn't check-out of what was a tough play call because the defense over-played. Took a FG.

30:15-32:20 -- More Florida defense, including one where we got lucky.

    32:20-34:22 -- Next Florida possession/drive.

    34:22 -- Red Zone

43:00 -- Especially a good example of why Coach Napier said Red Zone issues could be cleaned-up or were technical mistakes, IMO.

I thought it was pretty fair. Shows where plays breakdown better than anyone. Which is where CBN comments on execution and technique come from.
Still think the Margins are quite small on many of those. Better OL and receivers and we will see.

I have seen this guy's content before. Not as polished as GNFP but I do think he does a good job of analysis. I just find his halting style of communication to be off-putting for some reason. Worth watching though in my opinion.

This specific video mirrors the GNFP analysis for the most part. I do not think there are any surprises here. He did note that finishing in the red zone is important (obvious) but I really didn't hear him give any specific thought as to whether that improvement could happen or how. Could have missed it as I listened to it at fast speed. However, my opinion is that GNFP_ does a better job of pointing out the issues and the corrective action. However, just my opinion.

One takeaway which I think the world in general is not focused on is that this is not just bad red zone offense. It gets worse in the red zone as the field truncates but is generally bad the entire game. We run a really unimaginative offense and the passing game is still inconsistent but generally abysmal. It is really strange to continue to see defenses being absolutely disrespectful to our passing offense and us doing nothing to change this. Given how we call plays I don't blame them for the lack of respect though. Nine defenders in the box with the dbs playing cover zero? Run the ball of course. Respect has to be earned and BN is not earning that right now.

I went back making notes while you were watching. I found a good example around the 43:00 mark I think.

Not as long as Napier keeps calling the same plays

Man that one play at the 43 minute mark illustrates how one player can screw up not just his own route, but he screws up our TE's route too...

Also, that one play at the end of the video... the QB sneak, If we just snap the ball Mertz does a quick pass to either wide-out receiver lined up to either side of the field we get maybe a TD... at the very least we get the first down. Go back a look at the play again. No need to muscle that ball for a first down... The pass to either receiver lined up on the edges of the field would, for sure, get that short 3rd and 1, or even a TD.

I wonder if that was even an option for Mertz. If not the coaches need to make that a pass option too... from the shotgun preferably. Why "scrum" when you don't have to... play smarter not harder.

For all the angst and the admitted lack of in-depth understanding of offensive philosophies here are a couple of quick reads that shed light on our marriage to our current offensive structure.

    Breaking down bunch formations

    Gun Bunch| Formation | Football

These are overviews that might balance some if what is posted weekly by James

Personnel play a huge roll in our current scheme and hopefully we are a work in progress with the youth on hand and current list of ‘24 commitments.

    My take away …
Seems like a lot of Gator fans feel they would kill it, if they had their own podcast.

Why? We're here "killing it" here... on an opinion forum with no obligations... And Fowler/Herbie agree with me.

I think people not liking the bunch is more about how we run it vs the general scheme. Immediately in the linked articles I see man coverage in which the bunch runs rub or pick routes that are very successful. The problem I have is we don't do those things. James many times has pointed this exact sort of thing out, often asking questions of why are we using bunch sets and then running individual routes rather than rubs/picks/complimentary routes. He is also open about his bias, saying in almost every review I can remember that it's not the style he likes.

The other component of tite bunch is the need to account for additional gaps on the LoS much like an unbalanced line but we arent physically developed at the TE position to take advantage of this feature.

We have actually executed the controlled passing game reasonably well, we do have ‘technical’ breakdowns in executing assignments especially against blitzes.

I dont believe what we are watching is the finished work on offense. With the revised clock rules possessing the ball will pay dividends week to week our Achilles heal will be TO and they must be eliminated

Whole heartedly agree on this point, which leads to my criticisms about adjusting to the strengths of your personnel.

Edit: I do have high hopes for Boardingham based on the limited exposure thus far.

Yes, good to see AB getting reps he was hurt in camp correct.

I think what we are seeing is trading reps to install the playbook and taking lumps in a season not destined for greatness. We will look more like mutts going forward wrt TE play and reps are critical for all 11. Moving in and out of 11 or 12 personnel is one thing going 2x2 or 3x1 isnt in the make up unless BN is going to spring a surprise somewhere down the line, im not holding my breath

If James was any good, someone would hire him as an analyst. [crickets]. Easy to critique based on results when you don’t know the play or who made the mistakes. I get that he likes Heupel’s offense, but that offense also lost to us. Let’s be real here.

Really comes down to, is our offense effective? Didn’t Mullen try the old we have more yards ;)

Points matter, the redzone and short yardage issues are not just this year. Better big buts are definitely needed. The number of youngsters we have playing definitely highlights how far we had fallen.

Has his style of O in the red zone been very successful in the past?

I think there is some value to those podcasts however I've always prefaced any opinion based on them with the caveat that he may be wrong about assignments and concepts and people should temper any absolute value to them.

With that said, despite James admitting as much, he has taken such a negative and definitive tone lately that I think he's doing more harm than good. Seems like too many people are taking his breakdowns as gospel truth.
