Russia scored a trophy drone from Ukraine, apparently captured with electronic warfare measures. It was a major victory for Mother Russia, to capture an enemy drone intact. What do you do with an explode-on-impact trophy drone after you capture it? Of course, you handle it, pass it around, and take pictures with it. Everything went extremely well with the picture taking, right up to the point that the drone exploded and killed several of the picture-taking soldiers. I wonder if they were playing Russian Roulette with the drone. "Your turn, comrade. Smack it on the nose!"

Russian soldiers captured a Ukrainian exploding drone — then it blew up and killed several of them: report

Nothing like watching someone spike the ball just before they run into the end zone.

Russia would like to re-join the U.N.'s Human Rights Council. They believe they are doing all of the right things to allow them to re-join, including bribing small nations to agree with them.

Did Russia just offer to honor the 1990 treaty boundary if Ukraine agrees not to join NATO?

Russia May Have Just Given Ukraine Terms for Ending War (msn.com)

A top Kremlin official on Saturday suggested Russia could agree to an end to the war in Ukraine if a key condition is met.

During a press conference at the United Nations General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov indicated Russia would recognize Ukraine's borders prior to Moscow's invasion if Kyiv pledges to not join a military alliance.

Since Russian President Vladimir Putin began the war on February 24, 2022, he and Kremlin officials have cited various justifications for the conflict. But one of the most frequently stated reasons is Putin's opposition to the expansion of NATO on his country's borders, and he is said to be especially against Ukraine becoming a member of the military bloc.

Translation: "We're losing this war, and we can't continue much longer. We need time to rebuild our forces and re-think our strategy, and attack again at a more opportune time in the future."

Is Russia going to give back Crimea, or do they want to keep it? If I were in charge of Ukraine, I would insist on Crimea being returned, and no Russian navy base on Sevastopol.

I would also wait for Putin to come out and support the offer in public.

Ukraine doesn't have to be in a military alliance with NAT to greatly expand their self defense ability enough to discourage Russia from trying it again

Sounds like Russia is ready to surrender. I hope our Russian propaganda-comrade doesn't hang himself in protest. Maybe there is a Russiaholics Anonymous he could join . . .

    True.

I just have a hard time trusting Putin--he would be the type to get Ukraine to start sending their conscripted troops home, and then turn his troops around at the border and continue the invasion. In fact, I would be concerned that he is playing for time to see if he can delay the conclusion of the war until after the U.S. presidential elections.

If the Russian admiral was killed, it would be the first admiral killed in war since Yamamoto in 1943.

Ukraine killing Russia's Black Sea Fleet admiral would be a 'remarkable achievement' that hasn't been accomplished since World War II: ex-NATO commander

I sense a trap as well. Putin’s regime could not survive such a devastating strategic defeat. It would literally be saying that it has lost over 100,000 people KIA (Lord knows how many wounded) to end up in a worse position than it was in 2014. That said, though, both Ukraine and NATO would be wise to publicly agree to this proposal in spirit. Don’t give Russia the ability to say, “See? We offered them peace on the terms they say they wanted, and they slapped away our hand. Like we’ve been saying all along this really is all about destroying Russia, and they won’t settle for less.”

Agree with all of that, but there is still real value in publicly accepting the terms in principle immediately. Russia might just be trying to make Ukraine and NATO look like the unreasonable ones.

Here’s Medvedev’s read on the exact same situation: Let’s kick over the game board before admitting that we’ve lost.

Putin's attack dog Medvedev rattles the sabre AGAIN: Now ranting ex-President claims Russia is 'running out of options' in Ukraine other than a full-blown ground war with NATO which would lead to a greater 'cost to humanity' than WW2 | Daily Mail Online

These are two vastly different public statements coming from members of Putin’s inner circle. It’s hard to say what this really indicates. Has Putin lost control of one or more of his mouth pieces? Is there a growing divide in the Russian leadership about what to do next? Is this a deliberate message sent to Ukraine and NATO about the only two remaining courses of action? Strategic defeat for Russia with a few face-saving guarantees or World War 3? Gee, I know which of those I’d prefer.

I think we err when we expect Russia to make rational actions. My guess is that they are just spitballing trying to come up with a face saving idea.
